So she has been sick - yesterday morning I saw a little bit of red around the inside of her ear - not deep inside. The vet saw it and said he wasn't sure what it was, but it really didn't seem like an issue cause it was just a bit. (my interpretation) Tonight her face, her forehead, her belly are red, and it is starting on her back. She seems itchy, too. Before this started in her ears, she did not have any new food or shampoos or anything. Before I took her to the vet I did shampoo her with a new shampoo, but like I said, the red stuff had already started before that. I don't know if the canned I/D could be making it worse or the antibiotics could be? I don't know.

I called the emergency vet and he said I could watch her for a bit and he suggested bringing her in.But he did say it was a good sign that was not any swelling or hives or anything. It will cost $99.00 just to walk in the door of the ER vet plus anything else they do.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning at our vet. Do you think it is safe to wait?

I know it seems stupid when they're sick to worry about the money but I am off work unpaid for 6 weeks cause of my surgery, so it is a concern. Dang

I'm so sorry to hear that Kaya's not doing so well...I wonder what's causing the redness everywhere?? What kind of antibiotics is she on?

She's on Metronidazole and Cefa drops

I have been putting neosporin on bite that Ahia gets from misquitos. the kind for pain. it helps with the itching and heals the bites alomst over night. I know what yours has is different but the pain soother in the neosporin might help yours get thru the night a little easier.

Do you think I should get some Benadryl and try that?

I would have to put it on about 1/2 of her body.:(

Here is a link regarding metronidazole. I don't know if it helps, but you might read it over...There is a section that talks about side effects. I don't think the antibiotics are causing this, but read this and see what you think.
Could she be allergic to the i/d? Here is a link to the ingredients...Read them over and see if there's an ingredient in there that she might have allergies to...

Oh hun??? Hmmm Well does she seem bothered by it other than being itchy? Is she the same as she was at the vets other than the (rash) spreading?
I think you may try to just watch her and If she becomes distressed or it changes alot more then I would take her if Not just wait till the morning. And go to your regular vet.

If she's taking medication from the Vet. then please don't give her benadryl too. That could cause some major problems.
Did she start turning red after taking the medications? If so then she's having an allergic reaction to them and the Dr. should take her off of them. I hope the problem is corrective real soon.

She has never had allergies before, so I don't know. Thank you for finding those links - that was really sweet.:)

Hey Omega. Just got on. Don't know if she can help, but I'll call Debbie now!

You just never know what it could be...Could be the antibiotics, could be the food...I just had to take Miko off of Hill's u/d because he was having a bad reaction for some reason. His vet just prescribed it for him the other day, but he has been pressing his head after meals and then today, after going on an eating strike yesterday, he had a seizure. So no more u/d for Miko...We called the vet, and he said something in the food must be affecting him(Miko has liver problems though). But the food is supposed to be safe for dogs with liver problems, so I don't know...Just thought I'd share that with you. I know lots of people whose dogs are on the Hill's prescription diets and they do wonderfully though. But Miko has also had reactions to certain medicines too that I had no clue he was allergic to before we gave it to him. Well, keep us updated!!

OK I'm back. Debbie says of course she can't diagnose, since she hasn't seen the dog but highly doubts that it's the ID. Perhaps the antibiotic, but she doubts that too. She thinks it's more likely that she got into something or something got onto her. She thinks that as long as her breathing is normal and there is no swelling, you can wait to take her to the vet tomorrow or try a phone call to him tomorrow.

She doesn't like giving dogs benedryl although she knows other vets do. She suggests something to distract the dog from scratching - something else to chew on, water spray from a bottle which will also cool her.

But she wants me to be sure to tell you she can't be certain without having seen Kayla.

The red around her eyes I can't really get with the camera very well. But the picture of her belly is how red it is under her hair, too.

Let us know tomorrow how she's doing!

Oops I forgot to say there is a product for hot spots that you can use to help if she is digging in one or two areas. I can't remember what she called it. Oh Cortisol spray!

Teri thank you for the Pictures. It don't look like it has a rased bump or swelling.Is it Hot to the touch warmer than normal?

No raised bumps or swelling - it does feel warmer than normal, though.

I used to spray it all over Indy when he had grass allergies. I think it's safe.

Omega, I hope Kayla gets better soon. Tink had a bad night last night and it's so scary!
