So glad she is responding. When my beloved Sophie became ill, I questioned the vet about all medications and food, came home and quickly researched the ingredients and any reactions. It is very hard to not stress but, if you become knowledgeable, you will be her best advocate as well as her voice. Bless you and your sweet girl.

So much for the good news... All the redness is back at LEAST as bad as it was last night. :( I don't know what to do. I'm doing everything the vet told me to do. The benadryl isn't helping now - maybe it didn't earlier - maybe it was just the steroids and they only lasted so long? This is really the pits.

Teri, is sweet little Kaya acting puny, or does she just have the rash? I wonder if maybe she has some sort of contact allergy.... Have you DONE anything different? Maybe used a different laundry soap or softner? Are you using a different type of hand lotion -- that maybe you have on your hands when you pick her up?

Yes, she is not acting like herself. She is pretty lethargic. Doesn't play at all. She pretty much stays by me. She is eating now and it's staying down so that is great. I took her off the canned I/D in case she was having a reaction to anything in that -like the corn. This morning I fed her some boiled chicken and a few pieces of a different kind of kibble in case it was from her food.

I have used a different type of hand lotion. Someone from work brought it to me after surgery. Her sickness started about a week after I started using it. Gee, I wish it could be something that simple. (except that it is expensive lotion and I LOVE it and have been wanting some for a looooong time.:( ) I'll quit using it and see if makes a difference.
Thanks for thinking of that. I've been trying and trying to think of anything that could be different around here but can't think of anything else.

Did you see the pic of her in our great Nap Sack on your thread????

Oh Teri I hope that She gets better soon I know how frustrating it can be to have anything go wrong with them. You feel so helpless. I will keep praying :angel2dl: that things get better for her and you:hug:

I just wanted to clarify that 1mg does not necessarily = 1 ml. It depends on the strength of Benadryl you have. If it is the standard liquid Benadryl (children's) it has 12.5 mg per 5 ml. That equals 2.5 mg per 1ml. I wouldn't want anyone overdosing their pup. If you are really supposed to give 10 mg, that is 4 ml...which seems like an awful lot to give a Yorkie. Could this be why she's acting lethargic now? Be very, very careful.

If the dog dosage is 1/2 mg per pound, if she is a four pound yorkie, this would only be 0.8 ml. That's not even a full 1 ml. I had to give Pippa Benadryl once and her dose was 0.5 ml. Please be careful. Benadryl overdoses can be dangerous.

Kaya is 5.6# right now, so I think the dosage is ok. She has been just lying around since she starting feeling sick and that was a few days before we started the benadryl. I know it can make them sleepy, even taking the correct amount. Thanks for the thumbs up!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear Kaya's still not feeling well. It is so frustrating when your baby's sick!:(

Phew...good. That really scared me. I just wanted to make sure the misinformation was cleared up. Benadryl is one of the drugs that we try to reinforce the importance of dosing correctly in my line of work (pediatric nursing). Glad Kaya is doing better!

Thanks for asking. :) She seems to be over the runny poop and vomiting, but that darn redness is still on a large portion of her body. I'm going to give the meds a day or so more to work and if she's not any better I'll call the vet again.

Gosh, I wish Kaya would just get better already! Poor baby still has that rash :( We're praying she gets better soon!

have you used any flea stuff?
zac went red all over and had blisters on his tummy from useing frontline, he was fine the first few times i used it.

also that looks just the same as when my mums dog had a reaction to a flea bite we later found out months later she had a problem with her immune system, it attacked its self so she had to be on steroids the whole of her life.
it took a few months for it to all settle down but it did and she lived a long and happy life she lived till she was 12 which is a long time for a gsd and then it was cancer of the breast that killed her.
the only thing was it took 3 different vets b4 the last one found out what was wrong with her so keep at them, i hope shes better soon.

No, we haven't started that yet this year. Those fleas hide in winter up here in the north country!:D

Thanks - I will keep that in mind and mention it to my vet next time I talk to him.

Well, today she seems to be doing a little better. The redness is going away - very slowly. She has her appetite back too. Hopefully, she is on the road to STAYING recovered!!! I bought dreft to wash the dog things in in case she's allergic to the detergents we use.

I don't think I would add another medicine until you ask the Vet if it's ok. I'm sorry to hear she's not feeling well, and hope she's better soon.
