| What to expect after a spay... Hello I just had my 10 month old yorkie Bailey spayed on tuesday. She's 4 lbs 6 ounces and otherwise been fairly healthy. I know that i shouldn't expect her to be back to her old self so soon, but she just seems soooo unlike herself. She seems so uncomfortable all the time and she just walks around making this little whine all day. She's wearing a stockinette which i know she hates but it just seems to be more than that. Last night she was trembling and whining but couldn't seem to stay still, just pacing back and forth. She seems a little better this morning but is there anything that i should look out for, or were any of your puppies acting this way after a spay? Anyone elses experience would be very helpful. Sorry this was so long... |

| She was or still is in pain if she seems restless, pants, paces and so on. Did the Vet. tell you to giver her half a baby asprin? First off she should not be allowed to have free roam. She should be in a crate or ex-pen for a couple of weeks to allow some healing time. This is a major operation, and should be treated as one. |

| well that's actually where's she's been pacing, in her little pen. I didn't want you to think that i was an irresponsible mommy They gave me a liquid pain medication to give her for the 2 days following the surgery and today is the last day of that. I also forgot to mention that she also had 4 baby teeth pulled. |

| She should not be so uncomfortable this far out. Have you checked the incision? Does it look infected? Is she eating and pooping OK? I think I would call the vet to be on the safe side.

| I also think you should call your vet. Poor baby-and you! My girl "sprung" back with all her energy in nearly 24 hours and thought she was nuts! My maltese did not, she didn't cry or anything but was very wobbly for days from the anesthesia (which we later found she has a disease and does't take meds well). So, I'm sure they all recover differently, but I would be safe and ask your vet and maybe have him look at her. Hope she gets better soon!
