| sorry, this is gross! This actually isn't about my yorkie but my roommates' pitbull(7 mo. old): Yesterday she had told me that she thought Daisy had started her period but then realized she had bloody poop/pooping blood, very very bad diarhea and howling and just the sight of her was pitiful. Her vet mom told her to give Daisy some doggie kao-pectate (i have no idea how to spell that, never use the stuff!). She did but now today it's still bad, Daisy has apparantly SPRAYED poop on our walls and carpet and is still bleeding. She's now taking her to the vet but I was wondering if anyone knew what this might be!?? Daisy's never had any shots or even seen a vet's office as far as I know. I am keeping my puppy away from her at all costs now, they were around each other yesterday playing but she's had all of her shots so I'm hoping she'll be okay and this isn't serious or contagious. Does anyone know what's going on with Daisy or has heard of these symptoms!!???

| My mom's maltese is in the hospital right now with the same symptoms. He had bloody diarrhea all day while they were at work. When they got home the he was straining and blood was spilling out of him. We thought he had been poisoned?? or Parvo?? He was on death's door, he had no life in him and completely dehydrated. The vet diagnosed him with HGE. You might want to google that and see if he has the same symptoms. It is not contagious but it is VERY serious as they can die from dehydration. He has been in the hospital for 2 days bleeding but will probably be able to come home tonight as it is getting better. I hope your friend's dog will be ok! let us know! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Sounds like HGE The symptoms sound very much like HGE. We JUST got Ozzie home yesterday after his second bout of HGE in three months. He will be 10 in June and for some reason, he started having troubles last year with his anal glands. Vet thought if we had him neutered, a somewhat realted hernia might resolve itself. We did that but the hernia didn't completely clear up. After a few minor hiccups, including an ear infection, during the summer, Ozzie was doing great again. Then, right around Thanksgiving, he started having loose stool. Came home to find what looked like a smashed strawberry on the rug. It was blood. Thought it was related to his anal problem. Vet asked if everything else was fine and it was so we were going to take him in the next day. Within three hours of that he was throwing up repeatedly. And an hour after that, the blood started. Watching a dog POOP straight blood is one of the most horrific things I have ever seen. We rushed him to the vet and he spent the weekend in ICU. Then, the whole scene started to repeat itself last week starting with loose stool. They all get that sometimes so that didn't start panic. But overnight Friday the vomiting set in. It didn't turn to bloody pooping as quickly as last time -- nor was it as severe -- but we hauled a** to the vet as soon as they opened Saturday. DO NOT hesitate to seek medical attention when they do this. I can't believe how quickly this stuff comes on. What the worst part is is that because they don't know what causes it, you can't prevent it. |
