| kikk'so in the hospital hi all, I posted a thread last night in the general disc forum about kikko ... he was having the spasdic episodes of wheezing/hacking/coughing. So me, first time yorkie parent, was totally freaked out. But I got some great replies, especially one from txshopper73 (kimberly i think) about a collapsed trachea. In the evening I called my vet and he said not to worry and that these were most likely symptoms from kikko's previous case of pneumonia/bronchitis (that was the reason why I couldn't bring kikko home sooner). i couldn't shake the feeling after reading kimberly's reply. So i took him to the er vet, and through a lot of translators (lol) they took an x-ray and saw that his trachea was really small and most likely was collapsed due to the pneumonia/bronchitis. This is what I got from the docs at least. So now kikko is at the hospital and will be there for a few days to a week. I have a question though .... is a collapsed trachea a heritable disease, like was he born with this? Or did something happen to cause it either the pneumonia or maybe while he was playing with his toys or something? I just feel really sad and scared for him. |

| Awww, poor little baby! I'm so sorry that you're going through this. CT is hereditary, so I'd take it up with the breeder. Hopefully they'll help to make it right.

| I don't really know much about trachea collapse but did you try doing a seach on YT. I remember others had this problem. Go to "search" and type it in. I know some breeder will see this and reply or you could send a pm to a few. I hope Kikko will recover quickly. It was good that you took Kikko to ER Vet. You did the right thing. I will keep both of you in my prayers and look for updates. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | This site has wonderful info on it. It even shows x-ray pictures of collapsed trachea. According to this site, it is hereditary... http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...=1&SourceID=42 The cartilage defect that leads to the flattened C rings seems to be hereditary.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I just want to say all the best to you and I hope he's home soon and all better - how scary for you. IT does seem like it's heridetary and I hope that breeder stops selling puppies with CT - no dog should have to live with that..... I'm so sorry and hope it isn't but the upside is - in some cases it can be operated on. |
