| sick new puppy Help I just got my first yorkie and she is very sick the vet says worms but I don't think so. She is very small and her blood sugars drop and her eyes go funny I have a very hard time getting her to eat. She always wants to sleep, she has diarrhea and at night spasms/seizure type movements. Please help I don't want to loose her. Last edited by Irene; 11-11-2006 at 02:21 PM. |

| PLEASE! TAKE THAT BABY TO THE VET!!! Do you have NutriCal on hand to get her bloodsugar up? If not, try giving her some Kyro Syrup. Make sure she is getting enough water. Give her Pedialyte through a syringe if you have to. Please, get her to the vet ASAP! |

| Has the vet that diagnosed her with worms acutally examined her? If so I'd take her to another vet. This sounds very seruious. Don't waste any more time on here. Get that baby to a vet. Have you contacted the breeder? |

| Pancake syrup will also work if you dont have Karo syrup or nutrical. You really need to take your dog to the emergency vet

| sick little one Thanks for your replies Timbit has been given worm medicine and passed one worm the size of an earth worm that was a couple of days ago. The medicine seems to make her sick. The vet also gave me nutrical and I give it to her few times a day she licks it off my finger or I give it to her threw a syringe. Also vet said corn syrup and Gatoraid drink are good to bring up her sugars. She is done her worm medicine now hopefully she will get stronger now. |

Pedialite for human babies is good too - KEEP HER DRINKING !!! the seizure part scares me - but i hope this all passes and she'll be ok soon....GOOD LUCK !! |

| How is your baby doing? I would feed her canned food or any food at this time. Whatever she finds interest in. Keeping her hydrated with fluids is as your vet said is extremely important, but she needs substance, real food......whatever she likes for a few days. Wishing your baby yorkie good health! |

| Hi Irene! Congrats on your new little one, I hope that she is feeling better soon. How old is she? I had a problem with my Luna when I got her at 9 weeks of age. Check out the formula a breeder told me to give her. It saved her life! Send someone out to the store for the ingredients and get it into her ASAP. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58036 Puppies need to eat, the nutrical will help until you can get some food into her, but I do recommend this formula. Good luck and please keep us posted |

| Oh, and I forgot to say, PLEASE take that baby to the Emergency Vet. It will cost you big time, but I wouldn't wait. We almost lost Luna and the ER doc said that if I'd waited til morning, she wouldn't have made it. She may need IV fluids. Keep her warm, too! Praying really hard here for you and your darling girl! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali was very ill when I got her. She went hypoglycemic 3 times and had worms and kennel cough. i took her to the vet or er vet at any sign of illness and that saved her life several times. I had to feed her chicken every 3-4 hours to keep her going and nutrical. Just stay on top of it and she should be ok.

| Proteins Nutrical or Nutristat is great stuff but is more sugar than anything. A bit of protein with the Nutrical helps my babies when they get hypoglycemic. Chicken or Turkey baby food (yup, real baby food, like Gerber) works great and it isn't rough on their little digestive systems. It is also easy to feed to them with a syringe. Plain yogurt is another light protein that can help stablize the blood sugars. Good luck with your new baby, Teri

| I would do the emergency recipe Luna's Momma provided. I think the ingredients are good, but the most important thing is the every hour around the clock care until she gets stronger. If the dog has any diarrhea or soft stools at all though, I would substitute Pedialyte (infant electrolyte solution) for the half and half. 1/2 cup half and half 1/2 cup baby rice cereal 1 jar meat baby food, anything but turkey 1 tsp. karo or pancake syrup |
