What a great bunch of Yorkie Lovers I hope everyone on this board realizes what a valuable service these experienced breeders provide. Everytime I get sidetracked by the little spats, something like this comes up & really proves the worth of YT. Thank you all so much.

Julz, Good thing your girl had a C section I would think. Or it would have been trying to pass a football thru a one foot goal. By the way, Bowgirl is lots better. Ate more chicken, drinkig water, and caught her eating a bit of dry kibble. Still no fever today. She went out to pee again and showed a bit of attitude as her normal self. ......And my husband told me he would take her to the vet tonight for the follow up with my list. Im so happy but also very tired. | |

Oh, I'm so glad to hear she is acting fine. How nice of your hubby. Try and get some rest, I'm sure it is WAY past due!

oxyie I give a shot after whelping is over..or once contractions start..as in a case where one or two pups are delivered and the bitch stops or has mild contractions...BUT you need to have your vet weigh your girl and show you the correct amount..but always within 48 hrs.. In the past I have told people the amount only to find they used a smaller syringe..we were not on the same page..LOL I have never had a vet recommend a shot before labor starts...it is very different to induce labor in a human and a dog...dangerous in a dog without the vet close at hand IMO...

I am surprised no one has reccomended that this females calcium level be checked. With 5 puppies draining her resources, she may well need some calsorb to maintain her or even a calcium injection to get her over the hump. Her "staggering" sounds like hypocalcemia to me, would be worth drawing some blood to make sure. Also, Baytril can be a very dangerous drug for a lot of reasons, one of which it will strip the bloodsugar and cause hypoglycemia, another it makes them extremely nauseated, and not want to eat (also aiding the hypoglycemia) not to mention the problem it can cause passing through the milk.

Just wanted to let everyone know Bowgirl is almost completely back to her old self! Barking and jumping even! And she gave me kisses which she had no deisre to do for several days. SHe is off the baytril and as requested the vet switched her over to clavamox to finish off her round of oral anitbiotics. I hate it she had the Baytril but theres nothing I can do about it now. My husband took her to the vet for me, and since she was acting so much better the vet didnt do any levels. He just took her temperature, had my hubby walk her around, and did the routine exam and of course said to bring her in for further testing if she gets sick again. The staggering gait is gone, I just think she was so sick she barely had the energy to hold her own weight. Im feeding her high calcuim foods and she is eating them so hopefully this will ward off further problems. The puppies are doing fine and will be one week old tomorrow. Thanks again everyone for your input and support.

bitch I am sure Kelly will be watching her girl very closely and consulting the vet if she shows any signs of eclampsia. Best wishes

You breeders here on yorkietalk are some awsome folks I'd love to breed, but so afraid I wouldn't know what to do in an emergency. There is a lot more to it than having 2 dogs mate, and puppies come out on their own with yorkies. I'd be so afraid of loosing my girl, and/or a puppy. NOT a risk I'm willing to take. I wish I knew a breeder in this area to "hang around" with, and watch to see what all goes on whelping puppies. You all are the best! Oh, and glad mommie is doing so much better! I'd been scared chitless! Congratulations on puppies! I'd love to breed, but don't have the knowledge.
