| Ava came home last night!! She was on pain meds so she barely responded when she saw me. It floored me because she usually goes bonkers when she sees me for the first time when I've been gone - even if it is for 15 mins. Only one or two yorkie kisses today. I am used to hundreds. She has kept food and water down which is good. The lab results came back, her enzyme levels are still up. The vet said to call back in 48 hours and he wants to see her again on Sunday. Looks like this is something we will have to treat for the rest of her life. I'll know more on Thursday. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! I am praying that she makes a complete recovery and this can be controlled by diet. Ava's Mommy! |

| So thankful Ava is home. Please search pancreatitis here at YT. So many good articles. I lost my Precious July 4th 2005 from it and hospitilized my other yorkie I had at the time. Thank God Sassi made it. I have 5 now and am paranoid about any people food other than boiled chicken breasts. You have a good vet, as many times pancreatitis is not recognized til it is too late. Good luck and take good care of your sweet baby. |

| Ava will be just fine, its just like I told you IV meds, nothing to eat or drink and pain meds, even when I have come home after my hospital stays my enzymes are up for awhile and I am usually so hungry but hav eto start off with really really bland stuff, when tht organ gets inflamed, its hot and it hurts and tht is why we dont eat anything, so the pancreas does not have to work, its job is to put out enzymes tht break down our food, so when we dont eat, it gets to rest, and the slower you introduse bland food the less the pancreas will have to work even though I am sure she is hungry, even when we drink things the pancreas has to work, trust me like I said I have had my fair share of human hospital admits with this nasty disease and as a nurse take care of humans all the time with it and it is a rough thing to fight but it is something tht she will get over and be back to new, it just takes time, look at it this way, enjoy the calm lovin why you can get it cause in no time she will be back to her playful self and if she is anyting like Ty sometimes I have to chase him down to get some sweet puppy time. You and your hubby have done everything right..........tht is proably the only time I will know wht to do, if is Ty gets sick,,,,,,,,,,,,,knock on wood............anything else I jump on here and these awsome folks guide me right thru it..........it really stinks tht it happened, but she is on her way......just give her lots of rest and love and dont worry about her levels, they have to get high to get to the point of where she ended up and they will be comming down everyday just watch what she eats......... GOOD LUCK] CHRISTINE AND Ty |

This was my post about her (Precious) Senior Yorkie Talker Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Texas Posts: 246 A Very Important Post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was posted here last year. I have read so much in the last month, on forums, about yorkies vomiting and diarrhea. I copied the following post so every new mommy and daddy could read it. I know most of the folks don't feed their babies table scraps, but I am sure there are still plenty of people that do not know any better. So FYI: Yorkie Pancreatitis - PLEASE PAY ATTENTION! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is been my month so far......On July 2nd we woke and our 6 1/2 year old Precious, 4.8 lbs, had thrown up her dog food in our bed. (All sleep with us)..All cleaned up and then she seemed fine all day Sat and Sun. The morning of the 4th, I woke to diarrea on my pillow and she was still laying there. ...All cleaned up again and she acted ok but like she just had upset tummy or didn't feel really perky. That was about 8 am and approx 3 pm we left to go for a ride and have dinner. When we arrived home about 7 she was GONE! No explanation from our vet, said we could get an autopsy but often they did not show the real cause of death for sure. We didn't want that anyway as the pain was already unbearable for my husband and I. We had her cremated and she sits in my office in her little urn. On the evening at 2 in the am of the 10th, our other yorkie, vomited. I was still up and saw this. Watched her til about 3 and she kinda spit up again. By 8 that morning my husband had her at the hospital. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis. She was touch and go and in ICU for two days. Thank God Sassi is home and much better but our sweet baby girl Precious is gone forever, til we meet at the bridge! This disease runs in yorkies. As a matter of fact they are the #2 most suceptible. (sp?) PLEASE do not feed your babies table scraps or anything with fat! I beg you to pay attention if your yorkie starts vomiting and get her to a Dr IMMEDIATELY! Don't want others to go thru what we have been through the last 13 days and certainly do not want any babies to suffer cause you may not know this! __________________ LuvMyBabies Last edited by luvmybabies; 10-10-2006 at 05:52 PM. | |

| I'm glad Ava is home with you now. Did you learn from your vet if it is chronic or acute or can they say?

Thanks for letting me view your post. NO PEOPLE FOOD FOR AVA EVER AGAIN. I'll have to be sure that if we leave her they also know that people food can kill her. Thanks for your words of encouragement! Hugs!

Does cost a fortune, but it is so WORTH it!!! Ava woke up this morning more like her happy little self. We shared our morning routine - with a some kisses and play time. She is still pretty stingy with her kisses, but acting like my Ava more and more as time passes. I am so thankful!

Ava ate some of her kibbles this morning while I was preparing her chicken. Vet says to give her Nutro Adult Maintenance. He said to soften it so it is easier to digest. I am afraid to introduce new food. Any suggestions? Keep her on chicken or start the new food per the vet? She is taking enzyme pills every time she eats. I am scared to death to feed her the wrong thing or do something that might over work her pancreas. What about a short walk? She ran into the laundry room and barked at the drawer where I keep her harness and leash a few times. I am afraid that it might wear her out. I've never had a pet before - can you tell?
