Shaking and Panting I have a 7 month old Yorkie name Lily. She's been great up until a few days ago when she started having these shaking and panting episodes. I read many of the other postings, but this is a bit different. The shaking and panting doesn't start after exercise or due to lack of water. Just out of the blue she'll start shaking mildly... then she'll begin panting... and then her tongue curls up and sticks out of her mouth and the episode gets more and more intense. I took her to two different vets and they are not really sure... one vet thought she might have strained a muscle in her back and the episode was due to pain...??? All she's been doing is laying around. We throw her ball around and her toys (which she normally runs after and loves it), but now she does nothing. She'll play from time to time but eventually her episode will start... it will last for around 20minutes, then she'll fall asleep. This has been going on for 4 days, and I'm not really sure what to do.... can someone help???

My yorkie, Hobbs, does this whenever we go on a car ride. I think this is caused from stress. But, he starts shaking and panting. My sister's yorkie also shakes and pants everytime it storms outside. She does it so bad that my sis has to give her Doggie Prozac to calm her down. I bet there is something going on that your yorkie gets stressed out from or is scared of that is causing these episodes. I would try to figure out what the trigger is and see if it can be stopped. If the trigger can't be stopped, you could consider getting her some Doggie Prozac and give it to her whenver she starts having an episode.

She's very young yet. Is she a nervous puppy? Has she been spayed yet? How much does she weigh? Those symptoms could be a sign of pain (as your dr stated) or even an infection. If nutrical doesn't change the behavior, I think, if it were me, I'd take her in for some blood tests to see if they can figure out what's going on. Has she recently received any vaccinations? Dr. Mike had this to say about the same symptoms of another terrier: Terriers have some myopathy/tremoring type diseases and perhaps one of these is possible. Many other conditions seem possible as well. If this problem continues it does seem to me that it would be best if you took your dog to your vet. http://www.vetinfo.com/dogarchive.html

I would definitely have a complete bloodwork up done to see if there are any imbalances there. I would also try the Nutrical or Nutristat to see if it helps end the episode. Has she recently been given her heartworm meds or topical flea meds? Does she wear a flea collar?

Our little girl Sadie does this whenever she's afraid of something. Sometimes its not too bad but other times it very bad. Its normally when we use something electrical. Food processors are her least favourite things. Can you believe that she can now identify each piece of the food processor, so if you pick up one bit she starts shacking and panting.

hELLO, MY DOG ZOEY HAD SOME OF THE SAME SYMPTOMS ON FRIDAY, EXCEPT HER EYES WERE KIND OF DIALATED AND SHE WAS SHAKING AND PANTING. IT STARTED AT ABOUT 4 IN THE MORNING AND i WAS SO AFRAID i DIDNT KNOW WHAT GOING ON, BY 8:00 i HAD TO TAKE HER TO THE VET BECAUSE HER LEGS HAD GIVEN OUT ON HER. AFTER TAKING SOME TEST THE VET EXPLAINED THAT ZOEY HAD AN INFECTION AND THAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF HER HAVING A SEIZURE. ZOEY WAS GIVING SOME AMOXILLAN FOR THE INFECTION AND THE VET SAID THEY DIDNT WANT TO GIVE MEDS FOR THE SEIZURE BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPEN ONCE. THANK GOD SHE IS BACK TO HER SELF, BUT AS FOR MY SELF I'M A COMPLETE MESS BECAUSE I'M SO WORRIED THAT SHE WILL HAVE ANOTHER EPISODE.

My Katie was shaking a few days ago. I checked her out as I know this can be from pain. She had an ear infection, relatively minor. I cleaned her ear put in some antiobiotic ear ointment, checked it daily. It is fine now and she is no long shaking. Shaking and panting is usually from pain. Check her ears, her mouth for possible teeth problems or even something as simple as something jammed in her teeth somewhere.

| Piccolo does it when I vacuum. And I have to be very careful because he hides under the sofa.
