| What is going on? My little man has been shaking as if he were scared and panting on and off all day today. He did this awhile back for a few days in a row then it stopped. At first I thought he needed to go outside or something and was trying to hold it in but that wasnt it. It seems to be a nervous shake but sometimes he can be sitting on my lap like he always does and he just starts shaking and panting real bad so I don't think it is because he is scared or anything. I have read so many things about Yorkies and having seizures so could that be what is happening. If he was having a seizure would he still be able to walk around while it was happening? I know I need to call my vet but I am not too impressed with our vet and I am in the process of looking for a new one. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Shoot, I haven't had experience with that kind of thing. Hopefully, other members will see your post. I would bet most will recommend that you call a vet, though. It could be dangerous to guess. That said, how old is your pup and how much does he weigh? I've heard of YTers recommend Nutri-Cal (a high-carlorie paste that comes in a tube) for hypoglycemia, but I have no idea if that's what you're describing. My first thought was dehydration with the panting. I just found another thread with a similar description. Check it out: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8903

| My terrier mix that just passed away in January had a form of epilepsy and had seizures all the time. Hers were mostly pretty severe but weren't anything like what you described...but then again seizures can look different. I'd try giving your pup nutrical...it could be hypoglycemia which can be deadly for these little guys if not attended to. I had to treat Topher for hypoglycemia once when we first got him and the vet recommended karo syrup or corn syrup (one part with 10 parts water) as it was late at night and I didn't have access to nutrical. That worked fine for him. There are people on here who know much more about this than I do, so perhaps they know what's going on and can make suggestions. I'd highly recommend going to a vet, though. This doesn't sound right and knowing how quickly things can go downhill with these little guys, I'd definitely want to know what's going on. |

| How old is he? Have you given him any nutrical? They can shake because they ae scared or nervous or cold. Shaking can also be a sign og hypoglycemia and thats why I would give the nutrical. I would take him to the vet if it keeps up

| He is fixing to be six months old and he weighs a little over four pounds. I am going to do a little more research on hypoglycemia before I call my vet. Our first vet retired and our new one just isn't someone I really trust caring for my dog. When we first got Caesar of course I had questions. He never knew how to answer anything. We live in a very small city so my choice of vets around here is this one or nothing. |

| Only thorough testing is going to reveal the cause, but it could be as simple as hypoglycemia. I would definitely give the Nutrical or Nutristat a try. The symptoms are also that of having a liver shunt. Do you notice if the shaking seems to occur after a high protein meal? A routine blood test should show if anything is out of balance and give you some idea what to start testing for. I had a baby with seizures, but they were not what you are describing at all. |
