| Has she been licking herself at all? Can you try applying triple antibiotic until you reach the vet.

I caught her licking the night she had the surgery done....so since thursday she has been wearing a onesie...I was thinking maybe it could be a little irritation...I've been keeping an eye on it and it has not gotten any worse

I would think the most likely cause would just be irritation from the stitch. However, do keep a close eye on it. When Abby was spayed a few weeks ago, her stitches got a little red around the edges...then slowly progressed to big, greenish blisters! Come to find out, she is actually allergic to the stitches themselves! How bizarre is that!?!? She had to have an IV treatment, stay at the vet during the day for 3 days and had to take antibiotics. Again, I would thing it's just irritation, but you never know so keep an eye on it.

Lola got spayed last last friday, and she is back to normal now. Her stitches were looking a little pink too with little bumps, like mosquito bites, I think those came about due to her licking. It might be an infection the vet said and to keep an eye on her to see if it gets worse. Well, it didn't eventually the skin turned back to normal. I think it was the cone that she was wearing. She was using it to scratch at the suture because she couldn't get to it. After the stiches came out it looked worse for a day and immediately got better after that. Don't worry, it'll turn out fine!

Spaying After-Effects? I was very lucky when Kia was due to be spayed; she was almost seven months old, and I had gone to Guelph to see my son's convocation. The night before, while visiting my daughter, I mentioned to the owners of the farm she was on that I was worried about who was going to spay Kia. She said, "Why don't you let me do it?" (She and her husband are both vets), so while I was at my son's graduation, Kia went into surgery around 1:00 pm, and was home with my at 5:00pm. She had only one very small stitch. She received a pain shot after her surgery, and slept all night. The next day, we had a four hour train trip; Kia slept in her carry bag most of the way home. When we got home, she was back to normal; the surgery site was healed up in four days, and I took the stitch out a week later. She never scratched, licked or otherwise bothered it, and did not need a collar or any special care. It was the best job I have seen in years! While under anaesthetic, she was micro-chipped and had three retained baby teeth taken out as well. Also, Chris said that she was 'very close' to coming in season the first time, so our timing was great! ps; the photos are of Kia babysitting our rescues-they seem to feel she should have milk there somewhere!

now Lady has the cone...we took her back to the vet tuesday night cause I caught her licking and it was looking a little swollen....the dr. said I caught her just in time and sent me home with a cone and antibiotics....last night though she decided that shes was going to try and take it off...she got it half way off and caught in her mouth...I can't wait for this to be over...Lady is definitely not the best patient....
