| Question about sick baby--- Hi, I'm the happy mommy of 3 Yorkies, but this morning I had a scare with my Shih-Tzu puppy who is 10 weeks old. She woke up vomiting, I tried to pick her up and she was crying & just went limp. I sat her up & she was kind of bobbing her head around. I picked her up to bring her down the hall to show my husband and she went completely limp in my arms. While she was in my arms she also pooped. I laid her on the floor and she threw up once again. She was really lethargic last night but I thought that was because she had been to see the vet earlier in the evening and she was just tired. After about 15 minutes she was up again and eating. Any ideas on what could have caused this? I called the vet & they thinks it could have been a seizure and didn't sound like it was anything to be concerned about unless it happened again. I am taking her in the morning to get checked. From some of the other posts I have read from the group, I'm thinking it could have been hypoglycemia, I don't remember her eating alot last night after getting home from eye specialist, she also has a corneal dermoid. She had her 10 week vaccinations on Wednesday. Thanks for your help! |

| Welcome! First of all welcome to YorkieTalk. This is an incredible site! Hope your baby is feeling better by now. If it were my 10 week old baby, I would call the vet. I would be afraid to just let it go as a case of hypoglocemia. Good luck and please keep us posted. |

| I think you are most likely right it was hypoglycemia. Do you have nutrical on hand that you could give the puppy. I would give it 3 times a day if you do. If you dont karo syrup will work also.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali had 3 episodes of Hypoglycemia when she was younger the first one at about 10 weeks. I woke up and she was so lethargic and then threw up she didn't poop but I thought she was dying. I gave her syrup as I had no nutrical and took her to the er vet. It sounds like it could very well be that. I had tofeed CAli every 3-4 hours for many months and give her nutrical, so Iwould watch her very close for any signs of this again.

| Thanks for that advice. From looking at all the different posts on here & searching the internet, I'm thinking it was hypoglycemia. She has been doing good today, she's running around now playing with the rest of the gang. Do you think I should give her a little Karo syrup even though she's doing good now? She's eaten & drank well tonight. Thanks again for your help. You YTer's are the best! |

| When I first got Cali, I would mix in a little bit of honey with her water. That way, she got sugar whenever she drank!

| Oh I'm sorry to hear she's not been well but it seems like you have everything in hand. I'm afraid I'm not that experienced with this sort of thing but you've certainly come to the right place for advice. Welcome and please keep us updated on her progress. Hope she gets better soon! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would definatley get Nutrical and give her some a couple of times a day. It's better to prevent than treat hypoglycemia.

| Thanks to everyone! Hi everyone. I wanted to post an update about my Shih-Tzu puppy. I took her to the vet yesterday morning and he's convinced it was and episode of hypoglycemia. I would have never known about this condition had it not been for YT. I've got 3 Yorkies & had other dogs all throughout life and have never had a scary experience like this happen, hopefully I never will see something like that again. She's doing well now. Thanks for everyone's help & concern. Pam ***Proud Mom of Pumpkin, Precious, Baby Doll, Georgi, Furby, and my newest baby Squidgee *** |
