| Kennel Cough Has anybody's yorkie had Kennel Cough? My Holly is heaving and coughing. Only at night though. She's eating and drinking and very playful as usual. It's just this coughing, she's not vomiting (although she did last week and we took right to emergency) they gave her pepcid for her upset tummy. I read that Kennel Cough usually takes a couple of weeks to clear up and not to bother taking her to the vet because it's viral and antibiotics won't help. |

| Im so sorry that Hollie is sick with kennel cough. I will have her on my prayers to get well soon. My Gucci has never had kennel cough, so I really don;t have any experience. You can read the following info I found on Kennel cough. http://www.vetinfo.com/dkcough.html http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_kennel_cough.html |

| Most strains of kennel cough are viral (and must be overcome by the dog's immune system on its own) and will not be helped with antibiotics; however, it can turn into a bacterial infection like pneumonia that antiboitics can help prevent. Also the vet can recommend or prescribe a cough suppressant to ease the nightime cough. If you decide to wait it out (it can last several weeks), I would take her temperature rectally twice a day and if it ever goes over 103 I would think she is developing a bacteria infection and needs to go to the vet asap. Welcome to YT. Prayers going up for a speedy recovery, Holly. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Coughing My little guy came down with Tracheo Bronchitis and Tonsilitis about a week or so after I got him. One night he just started "coughing/hacking" (he was pretty much doing it non-stop) so the next day I took him into the vet and that is what he diagnosed him with having. He said that it was just like, or basically Kennel Cough. However it's funny because he started the coughing 2 days AFTER I took him to the vet for his very first dose of the Dronatal Plus that they squirt up their nose. But anyway, my vet prescribed him some Clavamox and it helped him Granted, he had the cough for SEVERAL weeks (and by several weeks, I mean like over a month) although the vet did tell me that even with the antibiotic he would still be coughing for quite a while. That was back in May and now he is all better

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali had it when I got her and then gave it to my 9 year old Pom. They both had it for over 3 months. It was just coughing at night and first thing in the morning. They were both on antibiotics but time is what got rid of it. I would just make sure that if it gets worse or she becomes lethargic you take her in right away. You may want to have the vet check it out anyway. Good Luck I hope she's better soon.

| My Elle starting it the night I got her. She had a vet apt the next day, to have her checked out, anyway. She had kennel cough. It's been over a month and she still coughs in the morning alot, and if she gets REALLY excited. I have taken her to the vet 4 times since then trying different meds and getting several shots. At the last appt, the vet said that the kennel cough was gone but now her throat was very irratated. So she told me to buy her some childrens robittusin. That seems to help after I give it to her, even though she hates the taste of it. But I would def. recommend keeping an eye on her and keep her on antibiotics. They can develop pneumonia if left untreated. Good luck. And I hope she gets better soon.

| We think Kona had Kennel Cough, she was doing the coughing and a bit of hacking thing. So I took her to the vet and they gave her Amoxi Drops. Those drops really helped her get over the cough. We were to give her meds for 10 days and the cough was cleared up not even 1/2 though the meds. I would take her to the vet to see what they say. |

| Stanley had kennel cough when I first got him. It was so painful to hear him hacking crazily in the middle of the night. Anyway, within a month after that, Stanley just suddenly stopped coughing one day. I think it's something that passes away within it's own time. Someone told me to give my puppy Echinacea & Vitamin C...it's supposed to boost their immune system. I hope your baby gets better soon though!!

| Hi there!! Sissy got kennel cough right after receiving her intranasal bordatella vaccine. She was on antibiotics because the vet said it went almost immediately into an upper respiratory infection. It took two rounds of antibiotics and steroids for the cough and a whole month before it went away. Other than the cough, she acted fine. Good luck.

| Gypsy had a bad case of it and had to go through several meds. They did a throat was and found several strains of bacteria. So one med would clear part of it, then when they switched meds, it would clear another part but the first was not cleared completely so it was a vicious cycle. I would def take to the vet. It could turn into pnuemonia. I just heard that the vet had another case of it recently where they had to give iv's to the puppy.

| Thank you, nice to know we're not alone. We'll probably take her to the vet this week just to get checked out. Aside from the little big of coughing at night, she's is acting like her normal self. But, I don't want it to turn into pneumonia. Keep you posted - thanks for the good wishes! |
