| Really worried about Maddie My poor little Maddie is sick. Last evening she had white foam coming out of her mouth and then drooled for a long time after that so her face was drenched. Today she seemed okay at first, though she didn't eat, but many times she doesn't eat in the morn, so I wasn't concerned. I did call to make an appt with my vet and the earliest I could get in was Friday afternoon. Since I made that call, Maddie seems worse. All she does is lay and sleep and didn't even get up when my husband got home. Also, a couple days ago she had what seemed to be a reverse sneezing fit, but it was different than the norm. Since then she lets out a honk every now and then...sleeping or awake. I got to wondering if she had something stuck in her throat, so I opened her mouth and she yelped in pain. I tried again and she did the same. The third time I was able to open it, but can't see her throat because her tongue is in the way. I called my vet at home and he is out of town, so I called the vet on call. He said he thought I could wait until tomorrow to have her seen. I am feeling really nervous about this. She is so lethargic and all she wants to do is sleep. She won't eat or drink, so I'm trying to at least get some water down her. I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow...will have to pay more for a work in appt but she's worth it. I just hope my vet is back in town by tomorrow morn. I took her temp and that is normal, so that's a good thing. So, what do you think...could she have something stuck in her throat?

| Is she peeing and pooping? I half wonder if she does not have something caught in her esophagus or if she swallowed something that is stuck in her tummy. Is she breathing OK? She also could have a bad tooth. Have you given her some nutrical? I would do that and see if that perks her up. I too would hesitate to wait until morning. Can you call another vet office and get an emergency number for someone else? |

| She hasn't pooped all day unless she did it without me seeing. She has peed so that's still in working order. I don't think she has a bad tooth. She's not 2 years old for a few month yet and I use the teeth for life on her and her teeth have no plaque or tartar. As far as I can tell, she is breathing okay. I will keep a close watch on her tonight and if she gets worse, I'll call that emergency vet. I wish my vet was in town. Isn't that the way it goes? I have, in the past couple of hours, heard her tummy gurgling. She supposedly has inflammatory bowel disease, but has been well from that for quite some time. I'm half expecting diarrhea soon for the way her tummy is gurgling. Thanks all for your well wishes! I'll keep you updated on how she's doing!

| Any chance Maddie could have tonsillitis? I just don't know. http://www.sniksnak.com/doghealth/tonsillitis.html

| Karen...thanks for that info on tonsillitis! I read it and it does sound a lot like what she could have! A little while ago she perked up and got a drink on her own and then wanted to play with a toy. As soon as I held the toy out to her, she made that honking noise twice and then she laid down again. Collapsed trachea has crossed my mind also and that scares me! I'd much rather it be tonsillitis!

| I'd rather it be tonsillitis, too. Muffin used to get it. That's why I thought of it. I'd give her benedryl and it would go away, but not always after the first time of giving it to her. If it was bad enough, I'd have to take her to Dr and she'd get a shot of antibiotics.

| This is amazing! Maddie suddenly seemed to feel better! She even ate and wanted to play! How can she go from one extreme to the other like that? I now think I can get some sleep! If she does okay through the night, I'll just keep my Friday's appointment. Otherwise, I'll take her in tomorrow as planned. I feel so relieved! I hate that when she is feeling so rotten and can't tell me what's wrong. Thanks for the prayers...they have done wonders!!!

| Poor little girl. Gus had gotten sick on my not too long ago. He had the same symptoms you just described. He caught a bee and tried to eat it. It ended up stinging him and he started vomiting soon after. He too would cry if I looked down his throat. I know he also had gotten ahold of some almonds that day because thats what he had thrown up the first time. After that first time he kept vomiting yellow foam. This happened at my cousins and he seemed to be ok. But on the ride home you can tell that he was just not himself. The next day he didn't want to eat and was just laying around not wanting to much of anything. So I took him in and the vet said it was an allergic reaction from either or both the sting and almonds. They gave him a shot to help stop the nausea and told me not to let him eat or dink anything for the rest of the day. I did let him drink water and he held it down just fine. By the next morning, he was starting to feel like hisself again. I hope it's something that will take it's course and pass and nothing too serious. I will say a little prayer for her. Please keep us informed.

| I don't want to scare you but it sounds like she could of digested some kind of toxin. Our s**tzu died after our cat knocked a bottle of Scrub Free off the counter and he must of walked through it then licked his paws. We were not home at the time. When we got home and saw the little spill on the floor we checked the dogs and cat their paws were dry and did not smell like cleaner but we washed off their paws anyway. They all seemed fine. Three days later Major was foaming at the mouth then started vomiting blood. He was two days at the vets before we put him to sleep. Could your dog of gotten in to something? In the yard or the house?
