Default Test Came back positive

I recently have posted a thread about my new pup having ringworm.

Its been over two weeks and neither my cat, fiance, or I have gotten any lesions on our skin so I have been starting to become hopeful that it wasn't ringworm.

The vet called today. and it is.

They said to keep putting the ointment on him like we have been. Does any place like petco or petsmart sell medicated shampoo or do any of you know of anything over the counter i can get. I am going to my vet in a week or so am going to ask him to prescribe something.

The other problem is my cat has now been more friendly and wants to play with my puppy. I dont know how to keep them apart especially since i work. I am afraid the cat is going to get it and they are so much harder to confine. I live in an apartment so there isnt really a downstairs or upstairs i can confine her to. I just don't want it to keep spreading umungst all of us.

My heart hurts and I dont know why. I know this is curable but it is so hard to get rid of. I have the option of returning him, but now i have growned to attatched. We have had him for over three weeks. anyone with advice please help.

You can use Nizoral, Selsun Blue or Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment. These are all anti-fungal shampoos. I would also recommend bathing the cat in it and even your own heads every other day.

I would also ask the vet about giving an oral antifungal medication and continue to use the ointment on the lesions. If you run out, you can buy Lotrimin over the counter.

I had a guinea pig that had it and it wasn't horrible to get rid of. Weekly i think or every 2 weeks a sulphur bath and some meds he cleared up. I did catch it but my dtr didn't and she wanted the guinea pig so I went to dermatologist and he gave me meds that cleared it up quickly. id did not spread to my dog either.

Try Chris Christensen's Peace and Kindness, it is colloidal silver .001 ppm, it is an antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, anti just about anything! It is good for everything from ear infections to hot spots, to yeast, to cuts, scrapes, ringworm, even internal viral and blood infections, etc. I have a supplier here that I can get human grade ingestible pure colloidal silver that is 3x the strenght of the CC Peace and Kindness, and a few drops in the "central water bowl" keeps everyone healthy and happy. The CC is a topical spray. My father in law is a diabetic, and when ever he gets a "boo boo" he can cure it with the peace and kindness where nothing else will cure it. They are even researching it's ability to help in the cure of certain types of cancer.

Any antifungal cream can help. Also, T-gel shampoo, there is a wash now to use with cream and powder all the same antifungals.
I have one that I cannot get rid of and it is where I sit down. Dogs never had it and my doc just laughs at me...

Why don't you check with your pharmacist? He's my favorite expert when I'm I'm wondering what over-the-counter medications are available.

And your vet --- of course.......

Call your vet's office and ask them if they have a shampoo for ringworm. When our kitten had it I got a shampoo from our vet and they told me how many times a week to wash the kitten with it. (Can you imagine giving a kitten a bath 2 or 3 times a week? Yeeeeeoooooouuuuuucccccchhhhh!!!!!

I no how hard it is to get rid of. When I worked in the shelter we had to bath animals that had it. Any anti-micro oragnsim shampoo will work. We use a shampoo called Clorhexaderm. I think you can only get it from a vet though. I am not sure it was donated to the shelter. Good luck and best wishes.

thanks for all your help.

the vet is presecibing oral medication i have to give to Baci with something fatty? he said like a lil piece of cream cheese or a few licks of butter.

Has anyone elses dog been on this medication and have any adivce?

Also he didnt want to perscribe shampoo bc he says it just tends to help it spread more. I am a little confused about this. Should i just get some head and shoulders or something and start bathing him in that?

thanks :-)

Do follow the vets advice about giving the meds with fat because they don't seem to work without it.

A little confused about the antifungal shampoo issue. I've always heard you should treat ringworm as aggressively as possible using the cream, shampoo and the oral meds.

I've never had to treat ringworm on an animal but, Ethan had one last year and I took him to the dr and they gave me a cream to put on it. My sister-in-law is a nurse and she also told me that selsun blue works just as well as the prescription cream does. I would never have thought that it would but she said she had personally used it before on one of her kids.

Read here about your medication: Griseofulvin I'm assuming is what you were prescribed.

Poor little thing...hopefully you can get rid of it soon. We have an odd spot on Punkin's tummy. Can you have a look at the pics found in the thread I started to see if they look like what your furbaby has. I would very much appreciate it - Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to hit this thing head on! It wasn't the hardest thing to get rid of but everyone got it expect one cat. 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 kids, mom all got it and it wasn't just one place alot. My daughter's prom was coming up when she got it and she tans real easy, so before prom she went to a tanning bed a couple of times only bad thing was where she had gotten ringworm she didn't tan, she looked like she had tan & white poka dots on her skin, so embarrassing..Shampoo and give the medicine(make sure you feed them something with fat in it) also vaccum your floors and mop everyday, because they can get in the carpet..It took us a good month or 2 to get rid of. Hang in there, but I would start treating everybody now and continue it for awhile. After all the fun of having it you will have a spot a bug bite or just something that will make you think OMG not again...lol
