Thank you very much for trying to help. This lil guy passed away about two hours ago, one day shy of 3 weeks. I now have instant glucose on hand, yesterday he perked up some. He liked the warm of laying under a shirt on your chest and a hot water bottle and didnt cry anymore. But His desire to nurse never did return and he never did lose the strength to fight me with a feeding. He just wanted to sleep really and be left alone. He went to sleep peacefully after a feeding and didnt wake up. His mother had already decided to reject him so he was with his hot water bottle and lambs wool cloth. Classic failure to thrive puppy. Try as you might they just dont do better and lose weight even if supplemented routinely. Im so sure I made mistakes and didnt do everything just right, but I sure wanted to turn the tables around for this boy. Thank you for all the tips I never thought of or knew about. Maybe I should have just let him go but I would always think maybe I could have saved him. God bless.

Sorry he didn't make it, but I would rather try and lose one then not to try at all. At least, you know you did your best.

I am so sorry to hear that your little man didn't survive. Another angel has its wings.. It sounds as if he had a lot against him. The biggest problem probably was FPS-failing puppy syndrome. I am NOT going to criticize your care of him because I think you did extremely well. (Can'y you just hear the "but" coming next?) BUT, puppies do not tolerate antibiotics well and usually do not need them. They need the beneficial bacteria in their bowel and I use BeneBac for that ALWAYS. Every baby gets it as soon as the cord is separated from the mom. I also use a special formula that I found in a Yorkie magazine several years ago. It has NO fat in it but is a boost for the baby to start its life. I do not use yogurt or other cow's milk products as many dogs do not tolerate lactose-now, I do occasionally use Lact-Aid brand yogurt but they do not get enough acidophilus from the small amount of yogurt they can hold in their tummies to warrant taking the chance of lactose intolerance. I buy BeneBac for small animals and always have it on hand for any stress situations. Honey is recommended over Karo syrup and unlike humans, dogs are not allergic to honey so it is said it is okay. Vets have 50%dextrose in saline that can be used for supplement... I do not consider myself an expert but I have studied everything I can get my hands on about whelping and saving puppies and there are several things that have never failed me. I would be happy to share if anyone wants to PM me. Breeding can be so heart-breaking but when it is good, there is nothing like it!!!!!!!

Whispers mom, I welcome any insight anyone has even if it means someone being critical of the steps I took to care for the puppy. Someone may have the very best intentions in the care they give but if it isnt the right care you can do more harm then good. You have to be willing to listen to others because what they say may make all the difference. Thank you for adding your experience and knowledge to this thread. I didnt save our puppy but maybe someone may find this thread if they have a puppy with problems, they may learn something from it. I can refer to this thread if I have problems in the future. I am making an order of things I am low on I keep on hand, I read up on the Benebac and it looks like an excellent product to have.
