| Stupid Fleas Please help me! I am new here so just wanted to say hi to all you mommy and dads out there.. I am the mother of Molly and Coco which had pups this sunday (3) 2 girls and one boy... One girl died at birth... However, I am having a problem with ticks and fleas ever since my sons brought a stray Persian home. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do with the newborns being that they can not use anything. I have carpet on the second floor I guess this makes it worse.. Please help any opinions... I am using powder on the carpets and one month treatment on the cats and the mom pop 2.... Thanks |

| Please make sure the fleas don't get to the babies. I've heard that fleas can kill babies really quick.

| First...your dogs and also the cat should be put on flea/tick control. In Miami we have these little pests all year long and they never seem to give up!! I know frontline spray is okayed in some countries to use in newborn puppies, here in US a believe the recomend at least 8 wks old. Check with your vet what he recomends... For the carpet, it needs to be cleaned throughtly to get rid of all fleas/ticks/eggs/larvae. I use a carpet powder, i leave overnight, and my carpet is steamed like 2 times a month....i also use foggers often... It is so delicated that you have puppies, so we can only give you ideas on what to do, but for better help and a true expert's opinion, check with your vet!

YT Addict | Beware of ticks, they can kill. If your seeing them on your dogs be sure to have them tested for tick fever,we lost our first Yorkie Priscilla to it and its a horrible Disease for the smaller breeds,by the time it manifest's itself fully your pets chances of survial are less than 10%. Everyone should do a google search to make theirselves aware of this silent killer. We lost our little Cilla over 10 years ago and If my wife or I ever saw a tick on another one of our pets we'd be at the vets office like yesterday. A SIMPLE BLOOD TEST IS ALL THATS REQUIRED.

| I did some search on this very subject. you have to be very clean. sweeping your carpet very often, creases in furniture also. throw rugs and pillows in the dryer for about 20 minutes ever so often . and spritz the puppies with lemon juice mixed with water. or you can spritz with vineagar water too. when you can bathe the puppies, you can add a drop of dawn dish soap in their shampoo. I hear dawn dish soap killes fleas fast. wash their bedding often also. those darn things can be annoying and the poor animals are miserable. they are hard to get rid of if you got puppies that are too young to treat with chemicals like you do adults. Just make sure the puppies are kept warm after a spritz. If I were you, I would call the vet and ask him what to do. discuss with him what has been suggested and get his opinion. I wish you luck and hope you can get them under control.

| Checked to see where you live -- and the answer was "Florida" So, I am sure you do have flea problems there. We had them terribly when I lived in California. They are the pits. I agree - check with a vet and see what's safe and effective for your new little puppies. Carol Jean |

| Thanks Thanks for all your posts... I was thinking of calling my vet... I took them in last week to get there tails and declaws done. I really like the Adams spray but it is a bit dangerous on her because of the nursing part of it. Also, am using one month trreatments along with the powder and vac on the carpet.... We also use the adams fogger in the garage... I will call to get the carpet steam cleaned as well. Thanks for all your help... |
