I am very sorry about Chester but it sounds like he isn't really able to enjoy his life that much any more due to his condition. No one can tell you what to do with such a big decision like this. Just do whats in your heart and what you think is best for Chester. My thoughts are with you.

| ![]() Poor little Chester! I, too, am in my mid-20s and am a newlywed. I know how you feel to be stretched to the limits financially. I have often thought about what we would do if Hobbs got sick and needed thousands of dollars worth of medical treatment. I have not come to a conclusions, yet, as to what we would do!! The second day we had Hobbs, he jumped off the couch and broke his leg!! That cost us an arm and a leg!! Then he got kennel cough, and we were literally in and out of the vet's office every single day the first 2 weeks we had him. We expressed to the vet our financial situation, and he definately understood. He never charged us for "check-ups" or anything like that...he only charged us for medication or tests he had to run. Try talking to your vet. I ALWAYS talk to my vet about all my concerns...after talking to him, all my anxieties are relieved and all my questions get answered. Vets know animals and pets better than we could all even imagine, and your vet will know what is best for CHESTER. Ask your vet what he thinks....does he think that Chester will eventually (sooner rather than later) get well?? Does he think that it would be better, for Chester's sake, for him to be put to sleep?? I really feel for you. I don't have any idea what I would do in your situation! My Hobbs is our child. I can certainly say that I would do everything feasibly possible for Hobbs. But think about long-term....you and me are both SO young....you do not need to do things like ruin your credit score trying to pay for vet bills. Are your parents yorkie lovers?? My parents have 3, so I would feel comfortable asking them for money for my yorkie's vet bills. How about you?? Ok, so here is what I would do: 1. Talk to your vet...make a list of questions before you go. If your vet is always real busy, try calling him and making an appointment to go in and talk with him. 2. Contact the people with the website dedicated to people who can't pay their vet bills. 3. If your parents are animal lovers, ask for their advice...maybe they will offer to loan you money...maybe ask them if you can do "little chores" around the house for money. That is what my husband and I had to do to pay for Hobbs' vet bills at first. 4. After all that, if you feel you cannot take care of him, contact a yorkie rescue...talk to them and make sure that he will be well taken care of!! Sorry so long!!!!!! Hope everyone's advice is helpful. We will continue to pray for your comfort, whatever decision you make. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() I am so sorry to hear this. As far as pet insurance I have VPI and so far I have spent 5,000.00 on Cali in her short 7 months with me, I lost my job last year as well, well so far VPI has found a reason to deny all the claims I ahev submitted, either genetic related or preexisting so that doesn't always help. I hope you can get an inexpensive way to get him feeling better.
