| Gus got sick on me. We all went to my cousins to help her move into her new home. Gus was roaming around and having a good time. We went to go pick up some food and we noticed that there was a bee in the van. Gus caught it and started to eat it. All of a sudden he coughed it up. I thought it may have stung him. Right after that he started to vomit. He threw up what looks like almonds. There wasn't much that came up but he did vomit 2 more times after that and it was mostly yellow foam. I don't know how he got ahold of almonds. My cousing did have some almond clusters in the frig. Maybe one of the kids dropped a piece on the floor and Gus got ahold of it? I started to panic and pulled over to make sure he was ok. He was heaving quite a bit after that but nothing more came out. About an hour he was acting ok. He was running around and barking and playing. I gave him some water because he was very thirsty from playing. He held it down ok. But on the way home he started heaving again. Nothing came up. He seems fine at the moment. I did a search on Almonds and it was on the bad list of toxic food for dogs. I called the vet and they said to watch him. He hasn't wanted to eat at all since but is drinking. I gave him some Nutristat. How bad exactly are almonds? And how toxic are they?

| I just called the vet again just to ask just how toxic Almonds are and they said it depends on how much he ate and how big he is. If only ingested a very small amount he should be just fine. But what could happen in some cases is dogs can have an allergic reaction to them just like people. So I'm thinking it was the bee that made him sick. I also did a search and here is what I found,,,,, Nuts in general are not good for dogs as their high phosphorus content may lead to bladder stones. The one nut that can be very toxic is the Macadamia nut. The toxic compound is unknown but eating as few as six nuts without the shell has been known to cause elevated body temperature, accelerated heartbeat, tremors in the skeletal muscles, and weakness or paralysis of the hindquarters. Affected dogs have difficulty or are unable to rise, are distressed and usually panting. Some affected dogs have had swollen limbs and showed pain when the limb was manipulated. Dogs did recover from the muscle weakness and pain and it is not known if there have been any fatal cases. Macadamia butter is included in this warning. He's resting and seems to be ok. These little guys can sure worry you sick!

| Thank you all for your well wishes. When it comes to my kids and both fur and skin I tend to worry a little excessively. I hate to see them sick! I found a informative site that may be useful on the things that you should not feed your dogs. http://mooreshaven.com/pets/dogs/saf...foodslist.html

| Well we had a good night but after he ate this morning, he threw up again. I'm going to get ready and take him in. He's acting fine. Playing and running around with the kids. But I'm worried about him not being able to hold his food down.

| Ok we are back. Gus has an upset tummy. Could be a combination of both almonds and the bee. They gave him a shot for the vomiting. And they said to hold back on feeding him till tonight. He's doing ok with the nutistat so he said to keep giving him that and by tomorrow he should be just fine. And if not, they said to take him to him our vet tomorrow. He's acting just fine. He's a bit sluggish at the moment but he doesnt not seem to be in any pain or anything like that.

| Boy oh boy! I don't blame you for worrying! Did the vet think the bee stung him? And the almonds...sure makes you wonder where he got them, huh? I sometimes think we should have our yorkies living in a bubble to keep them away from all the dangers! That site you gave with the bad list of things...it just goes on and on and on! Thanks for sharing that! Hugs and get well wishes to Gus! Hope he'll be feeling fine!!!
