| 10 mos. yorkie vomiting/diarrhea w/blood in both, at vets now! help my little guy Joey is a sick boy, he started with diarrhea 4 days ago and now has blood in the mucousy diarrhea and tiny blood clots in the vomit, started vomiting last night, took to vet, diagnosed with colitis, now hospitalized, anyone with a Yorkie ever had this horrible experience? I am terrified of losing my littly boy!! He has no fever, or parasites. and at 10 mos only weighs 3.5 lbs. Up until now he has been very healthy and active, but his smallness concerns me as I have heard the little ones can go down quickly when ill. Any ideas out there?? Thanx in advance for your help.

| colitis is not serious, most dogs will recoved after being fed bland food such as boiled chicken and rice and cottage cheese. They have a difficult time processing their food. Have you had him check for giardia? the symptoms sound more like that which can be easily treated as well. keep us posted

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Both of my dogs had this problem last month 2 weeks a part. They both recovered with antibiotics and sme other medicine. Cali, my puppy, 8 months old weighs 4 lbs and she had to stay overnight and be Iv'd but she was fine in a couple of days. I just am very careful in what I feed them. Hopefully Joey will make a quick recovery.

| Colitis You can also use Science Diet Canine R/D for colitis.. It comes wet or dry.. You would not want to use only R/D as the diet, since the R/D is also a weight loss food.. But you can mix the R/D in with his food and it will greatly help the colitis.. Hope he gets feeling better soon! |

| Trixie had a similar problem not long ago...same symptoms you described minus the vomiting. All her parasite tests and blood work came back negative and everything. She had to eat boiled chicken and rice for 2 weeks and take an anti-inflamatory pill. She cleared right up, no problems since. Our (regular) vet said that there are alot of things she could have eaten that could have caused it. (After talking with the emergency vet, they both agreed whatever it was had caused intestinal inflaming and upset.) She said that one of the most common causes is beetles and particularly stink bugs! She said most hard-shell beetles (even ssmall ones) have an enzyme in their stomachs for digestive purposes that is toxic (toxic, not deadly) to dogs and will cause this problem. Of course, there could very easily have been something else, but I would have never thought twice about Trixie attacking a beetle if she saw one. |

Hopefully Joey will never have another bout as this can happen my friends yorkie is 12 and has colitis she manages to keep it under control but if he does be carefull with his diet and weedle out what may cause a flare up unfortunatly it will be trial and error. Robbie sadley died after xmas they think his bowel turned to cancer I hope this does not frighten you I did not wish to but it is important to get them to a vet when they become ill. My husband also has colitis and on meds he keeps well so long as he stays away from indian food. Good luck. | |

| How is little Joey doing today? The vet is the best place for him as they can make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. Hope he feels better and comes home soon. |
