| My older yorkie (almost 18) occasionally has seizures. If I see him going into one, I moisten my finger and get it in his mouth and get him to start licking. That seems to be an automatic response that gets the brain back into sinc. Also, hold the head lower than the rest of the body and make sure the tonque is forward. In fact that's how I discovered this technique ....I'm opening his mouth and making sure the tonque is forward and not blocking the airway. Good luck and our prayers are with you both. We'll all be anxious to know how you're both doing. |

| Please let us know how she's doing...Seizures could be a symptom of something else like a liver shunt or something like that. Each one can make her worse and cause damage to her brain, body, etc. I will be praying for her!

| Jewel has been battling seizures due to Necrotizing Encephalitis or GME. (You can read my thread at http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30824) You must get professional help. No if ands or buts! Seizures are very serious and can cause brain damage! Take her to ANY vet if she has: 1. More than 3 seizures in 1 day. 2. Seizure last more than 2 minutes. One possible cause to have checked: Liver Shunt - it will require surgery but it is a very common birth defect in Yorkies. Medication: Insist on only using Potassium Bromide. It takes longer to start working and requires monthly blood work untill the proper doseage to be found but it is sooooo much safer. If Daisy is having really bad seizures you might want to consider having your doctor add Pheobarbitol but only for a very short time. Pheobarbitol is processed through the liver can permanently damage Daisy's liver. Here are some things you can do that has helped Jewel at home. 1. Don't panic! She will feel your stress! Have a towel handy to clean up any bowel or bladder movements. Don't put anything in her mouth, dogs can not swallow their tounge. 2. Soon as she starts having a seizure, place an ice pack on her lower back, between her lower rib cage and tail. Not the tummy or neck 3. Get some "Rescue Remedy" and place a drop on her head. It's a natural calming agent made from flowers extract. You can find it at any health store like GMC. Diet Changes: 1. Eleminate Glucose from her diet. No Wheat, Corn, Soy, Dairy, turkey. Try switching the food to a potato based diet. 2. Add unflavored gelatin to her meals. Sprinkle enough to lightly cover the top of her food. Links to more information: http://dogtorj.tripod.com/id2.html This site is a little tedious to read but it changed Jewel's life. http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-...m/site_map.htm Lots of simple information on epilepsy If you want more info, PM me through YT. Good luck to you and Daisy. I hope she finds help quickly. Jewel, Jazzie and I will keep you and Daisy in our prayers. Give her tons of positive thoughts! It really helps!

| I don't want to scare you, but do not give Daisey any Nutrical until you talk to the vet. Our first Yorkie, Bandit, was having seasures. When he had a really bad one and we gave him nutrical it sent him into a seasure that they were unable to stop and he died. Bandit had liver shunt and the seasure was made worse by the nutrical. Please update as soon as you can. I'm praying for little Daisey.

| I know how much they take from me and they are very scary. Make sure you get everything tested, full bloodwork and whatever the vet recommends and then ask what else can you check for. Seizures are not to be fooled around with. I know from experience and have had to be hospitalized nearly 30 times from bad ones. Please let us know what the vet says!! Michele you can email me if you want with any questions about seizures! tidd@comcast.net |

| Any news on Daisey? She has been on my mind all day.....you too of course Jarad. Just wondering if you made it to the vet and what the outcome is. One time we had to drive from Tucson to Phoenix with our Gussie....neurological event and it was an eternity. Hope for the best for both of you. |

| Another thing you can do for Lucy is to put a bell on her. I have a bell on Jewel so I can hear her if she has a seziure. She jingles all the time but it definiely sounds different when they seize and it wakes us up if she has an attack in the middle of the night or in another room.
