| Emergency. Please help as no 24hr vet. My 4 year old boy, Charlie has been shaking, vomiting (4 times) and having some kind of fluid virtually shooting out of his nose for 12 hours now. He’s constantly trying to clear his air ways and I’m now very concerned. He’s soooo tired but can’t sleep because of how he’s feeling. It’s the “foamy” type substance coming out of his nose which is worrying me the most. He rears up on his back legs with a look of sheer terror on his face whilst moving backwards and kind of “boxing” with his front legs as the liquid shoots from his nose. I’m really at a loss as to what to do. He finally ate a couple of pieces of turkey earlier but that’s all for nearly 24 hours now. Has anyone ever seen or heard of these symptoms and behaviour or have any advice at all? |

| Call your own vet and they will have a message at the end to tell you where to go in an emergency. If he will eat cook some chicken and white rice , don't rinse the starch from it and see if he will eat it , but you should get him to a vet. I would call all the ves in the area even if they are closed there will be some sort of out of hours service.

| I hope you have been able to take Charlie to a vet. Please keep us updated on what the vet said and how he is doing.

| Thanks all. Charlie was sick again twice during the early hours of Sunday but since then has, thank goodness, steadily got back to his old, mischievous self. He’s eating and throwing his ball at me every 5 minutes. He’s had episodes like this before but it’s only ever lasted 30 odd minutes, not 12 hours. We had to take him to the vet 2 months ago after the last time this happened and because he was vomiting after every meal. They advised it was probably something to do with his trachea as it’s a common problem amongst yorkie and it might need an op. Also he has to have his teeth cleaned and a couple removed shortly so I’ll ask them to X-ray his throat then to see if there are any problems. I’m just glad he’s better. I don’t scare easily but on this occasion I was very concerned. My poor wife was beside herself. It really felt like it was touch and go. Thanks again. |

| Thanks for the update. Had that been my dog at first sight of foam coming from their nose we would have been in the car heading to ER vet regardless of the day or time . With all the yorkies I have had none of my dogs ever had this. 12 hours of touch and go, not knowing if your baby was going to make it, I am just lost for words. You should have an emergency vet number posted on your fridge or someplace that is convenient when an emergency arises. Thank GOD he is ok for now, but I would definitely get him into the vet today only because this lasted 12 hours, if it happens again, you may not be so lucky that he comes out of it.

| He still needs to go get checked out by the vet because that is not normal and something was very wrong and it wasn’t collapsing trachea.

| Please follow the advise given by others who have responded. This seems really serious even though this episode appears to be over. Seriously, see a vet asap. Personally, I know nothing about collapsed trachea, but I trust the others that the diagnosis doesn't seem right. If they continue to insist on that diagnosis, I would get a second opinion immediately. Please.

YT 500 Club Member | OMG he is not well. Could it have been a seizure? I’m not a doctor, but have had 2 fur babies that had seizures and not good. Hope you get answers fast

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you video taped these episodes so the vet can actually see what's happening...? That would be of utmost importance for correct diagnosis. This could be something much more serious like seizures, an airway issue, a nasal-oral fistula. These are serious symptoms and I would get them definitively diagnosed asap.
