| Dental My nearly ten year old boy loosened some front bottom teeth and the vet says they may be broken below the gum line. So tomorrow he has to have a dental cleaning, X-rays, and some tooth extractions. I did all the pretests and he seemed generally well, as did his physical. So the vet is going ahead. The vet is very thorough and I do trust him. He even came in on his day off to get the test results and relay them to me. But I am really scared for him and ask for prayers that he will do well and be ok after the surgery. Bless his heart, he is running around today not knowing what befalls him tomorrow, but I am a basket case. I know, he should be ok, but I still worry as anesthesia is always risky, even if a small risk. |

| Praying for all to go smoothly for your little guy. My Max is almost 10 and had his dental yesterday. Everything went very well. Teddy is 9 and had his done in May. You and your baby will be so happy to have it done. I put it off for a long time out of fear. It’s a miracle that my boys didn’t lose much. Our vet warned me that if I wanted the boys to retain their teeth and health in old age, I can’t put off dentals in the future.

| Thank you very much for your prayers, experiences and good wishes. As they get older I feel the risks are greater. My dog had the last dental eighteen months ago and his physicals in Feb and last week did not show any alarms, but then I noticed the missing lower tooth and found others there were loose, I panicked and saw the vet! The little tyke attacked the window drapes trying to get at the noisy gardener and that is what I think did the damage. So probably good to get the dental now due to the loose teeth emergency. Thanks again. |

| I will keep y’all in my prayers. Hope everything goes great. We all worry when they go under so that’s very normal.

| Thank you Taylor. I am sure you must worry a lot with all your babies! I only have one! Luckily my boy has no idea what he has going tomorrow, but will wonder why no breakfast tomorrow! |

| My 10 year old little girl get a dental every 3 months or so as that has seemed to preserve her teeth well. She has always done well.

| Wow! That is wonderful care! Good to know that your ten year old takes being put under very well, and that she really has good teeth from the good care. I so dread giving my boy anesthesia that I don’t think I could handle it so often. But as your girl takes it so well, it certainly is good for her health and teeth. Thank you for your reply, makes me more confident my boy will be ok. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I completely understand and empathize with your worry ! I'm the same way. All three of mine had dentals last fall and all did amazingly well. You did the pre-surg bloodwork, and that's very reassuring. Your baby will do *great*! Sending good thoughts!

| Thank you Ann for your comforting and reassuring words. Good to know all of your three babies did well. I did not sleep much last night and am awake early to take him in at seven am. He needs an early Famatodine shot as he hasn’t eaten yet and tends to get sick if he doesn’t eat early. Luckily he is quiet and sleepy, so I hope he does not get antsy and want food! Thank you again for your kindness and support. |

| I have a system to try and deal with my anxiety now. After I drop them off I comfort eat pancakes and then I feel like I have to buy them something because that means everything will be fine and they will be coming home great. Sometimes I have to throw a Xanax in there to though lol.

| Thanks Taylor, sounds like you have a good anti anxiety system. Unfortunately my appetite goes to zero with stress, and now I am really anxious waiting for the vet to call. So I will admit to a Xanax, but that isn’t helping much. On a positive side, I did put some of his kibble in sterilized water to soften it if he doesn’t like the canned ID. So there is a bit of positive vibe going on, but the negative is winning right now. I do appreciate you writing, thank you. |

| Update Dental Hi all. Just heard from the vet and my boy is said to be alert and well after the successful dental. He had to have three lower teeth taken out as they were very loose and had infection in the pockets. So hopefully with the after meds he should soon be feeling better. I have to pick him up in a few hours and hope to see a happy dog. I will not update further unless any change. Thanks all who wrote and gave me prayers and comfort. You really helped. |
