| Lymphangiectasia My 9 year old baby girl has been fighting a severe symprtoms of lymphangiectasia over the past two months. She’s likely had it all along, as evidenced by almost yearly pancreatitis. She has been on a special low fat diet since I got her at 2 years old. My Penny girl has seen two different internal vets, in addition to animal hospital vets, and has been/is on on multiple medications. She has gone from 8 lbs to 5 lbs in two months. Up until this past week she was having her belly drained of the fluid build up about once a week. Her albuterol has hovered around 1 for two months. I am hoping to hear from others about their journey with this terrible disease. This past Saturday we took her to the ER vet due to her not eating or drinking. They recommended that she be put down, which was horrible to hear on my birthday. I just did not see her being at that point and she has been perkier since then, but is still very sick. Yesterday, the internal vet said we are likely looking at one to two weeks. Has anyone been at this point and seen recovery? I am not in denial of the severity and that this is coming sooner than I’d like, but would just like to hear the experiences of others. |

I haven't faced this condition myself, but know that other YorkieTalkers have. There may be many others, but see the 2009 thread by juliet1, "lymphangiectasia." Prayers to you and your little one. --KatysMom | |

| Another thread started by manolos mom in 2009, "Lymphangiectasia." A 2010 Thread by lklong, "Yorkie with Lymphangiectasia." I see that LadyJane has commented on both of those threads. You may want to PM her for thoughts. Keeping the paws together and prayers in full gear.--KatysMom |

| I am so very sorry you are dealing with this. My sweet Cookie, who went to Rainbow Bridge last year, had lymphangectasia and IBD for 6 years. She actually responded well to treatment and in the end, she passed of lymphoma. So, it is possible for them to live a long life. I know others who are living and have been for some time. On the other side, though, some simply don't do well. This is a thread about Cookie and maybe it will be of some help to you....maybe something in there will be something you have not tried. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ia-update.html Albumin at the numbers you mentioned are definitely scary. Have you ever had her hospitalized in a specialty hospital? Sometimes they can turn them around with hetastarch and IV meds for a few days. I wish I had something else I could say. I HATE lymphangectasia so much and I HATE that breeders don't care. Well, let me say that reputable breeders do....but the ones who continue to breed willy nilly are the reason this is still affecting so many yorkies. I will say a prayer for your girl and for you. If you have any questions...if I can help in any way at all, feel free to message me.

| I am so sorry that Penny is so sick, and hope that there is something that can be done to make her quality of life improve.

| I appreciate everyone's replies, I have been dealing with a lot with my baby in the past week. Two days ago she took a turn for the worst and I scheduled an appointment with an in home vet to put her down. Yesterday, she went rapidly downhill and I took her to her regular vet right away so that she would no longer be in pain. I'm pretty sure she was actively dying before they even gave the first shot. This disease is horrible and robbed me of years with my baby. I am completely heartbroken. |

| I am so sorry to hear that your little one passed. Please know that your decision to spare her further pain was a final act of love, and that you were very brave to take action to help her! May time heal your heart, and allow you to enjoy only fond, happy memories.

YT Addict | So very sorry for your loss, know well the pain and sadness of fighting these horrible diseases that attack our little ones,we went through this same heartbreak with our little Lady Pricilla who suffered from tick fever, given only a 5% chance of survival at the time of diagnosis we still fought this hideous disease through blood transfusions and medications and love for a year or more. She passed lying in bed between us. Again so sorry for your loss, RIP sweet baby
