| Yorkie shedding or allergic reaction to seresto collar I put a seresto flea and tick collar on my 9 month old (at the time) yorkie. It irritated his skin really bad but I did not think much of his scratching. I took him to get groomed a week later and they cut his hair a little too short and it irritated his skin even more. So at first he started losing hair in places where he scratched so i took him to the vet to get a medicated bath and they prescribed him a weeks worth of antibiotics. His hair eventually grew back but he was only missing small patches along the middle of his back. Now his entire back is down to his bottom coat (the black hair) and it’s super short. I’m wondering if it’s shedding or if something else is wrong? I started taking him a bath in hypoallergenic shampoo, so i don’t know if that may be affecting his hair. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sorry you're kiddo is going thru this. Visible skin/hair issues are always secondary to either allergies or a disease state. If there is truly visible hair loss that is not regrowing, then you'd def want to get a thyroid panel, and then also look at symptoms of Cushings and see if your dog has other Cushingoid symptoms besides just hair loss. If yes, then I'd explore that with your vet as well. Keep in mind though that most general vets are not skilled at diagnosing Cushings...it's a very complex disease. Keep us posted please !

| Thank you so much Wylie's mom. Here is a picture of how his hair is regrowing (or growing in reverse). |

YT 2000 Club Member | Dog fur Do you think your Yorke is allergic to something in his food? My friends Yorke scratched alot. She's allergic to poultry. Put on a beef diet she cleared up. I hope you can get to the source of the problem. I had a poodle I took to the derm dr. He said feed her venison. That worked. Hope you get good results. No flea collar |

| Sorry to hear your little one has irritated skin. You say it started with the Seresto collar I believe? I was not clear if it has been removed? Even so, it is possible the chemical in the collar is irritating his skin as it is distributed throughout his skin. If not, it is good that you have some helpful advice above. Good luck and please let us know how he is doing. |

| My first comment: Royal Canin is good. I can pretty much guarantee that food did NOT cause this! That is a really odd thing....his hair was missing down the whole back?? I do wonder if it is possibly thyroid. But, the fact that he clearly had an issue with that collar makes me think it is more than likely from that. When they lose hair, it often grows back dark like that...sometimes it changes to light again, but I have had some have black patches. You might want to do a dermatology consult if his hair doesn't continue to grow back.

| Flea collars have a history of being a problem. This one is new....I suppose it is next on the problem list. I just saw a blog where a dog had a reaction....the owner called Bayer and they advised them to bathe the dog in Dawn dishwashing soap. If you didn't call them and/or bathe after, my guess is the grooming had nothing to do with his irritation. it was just that insecticide in the collar that was still on the skin. I read somewhere that it is very powerful. I imagine you have seen this list of side effects now. Side Effects of Seresto Flea Collar Making Dog Sick Itchy skin and skin irritation that will result in hair loss; Redness of the skin after the hair loss; The appearance of swellings in the dogs; It also said to have cause abortion and birth defects in dogs; Intense scratching around the collar;

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What is the appearance of the skin underneath the black area vs the grayer area...any difference..? When you first saw this after the groomer cut it too short - what did his skin look like at that time..? And was there any visible damage to the skin due to that extremely short cut...? (ie, damage from the heat of their drying box...or...?)
