| nubi question, treating diarrhea Hi all, I'm new to Yorkie's and the group. Last Saturday I adopted a 5 year old female for the local shelter. Dori got me up in the middle of the night to go outside. She had a runny poop. this morning she seem to have the runs. I'm worried she will get dehydrated. She is extremely anxious and hides. Since we got her she wont eat anything but bits of cheese , chicken, and cottage cheese. What can I do to help her ? |

Welcome to YorkieTalk. Bless you for opening home and heart to this little one. It sounds as though she could be dealing with several issues. You are right to be concerned about dehydration. In combination with anorexia (not eating) even one episode of diarrhea send up red flags. Links to a few articles follow. Were I in your shoes, I'd be on the phone with the vet. Collect a stool sample if you are able. Separate from your call to the vet, you may want to contact the "local shelter" where she had been housed to let them know about her condition. They may have information helpful to you. Will crank up the prayers for you and your little one. Thank you again for bringing love and care to her. --KatysMom PetMD, "Acute (Sudden) Dog Diarrhea." | Oh dear! Less you for making a home for this pup! I agree, talk with your vet of course. Did you change her food?

| Stress can cause diarrhea but she still probably needs to get a vet check to make sure its not something else.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Since you just got her, I'd def do a fecal asap. And if she is refusing to eat except for very high-value items (cheese etc) - that lack of appetite is most definitely a sign for concern as inappetance in dogs is a cardinal sign of something amiss. I'd really get her to a vet asap. Or, contact that shelter and let them know she's had diarrhea since adoption and ask their vet to see her.
