| Someone HELP; I don't know what else to do! Hello everyone, So Leo started with a really weird hacking noise and cough after we were hit by Hurricane Irma. He was exposed to a lot of dogs as we all took shelter and he's been on about 2 rounds of antibiotics and steroids now. He was scheduled to be neutered last week but the vet decided not to because after checking his x-rays found that he was incredibly congested. A week later, which is today, he looked better but he STILL has this really weird cough. I don't think its collapsed trachea, but i'm also clueless as to what else it may be and WHY its not responding to any of his medications. He doesn't do it randomly, its usually when he's excited or in the mornings when he sees me. I'll post a video I took this morning of his cough to see if anyone can help my poor baby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VOtPl6OdNc

| It is hard to tell ... it sounds like it could be a reverse sneeze, but, I have seen cases of collapsed trachea sound similar. I would take this video to the vet! If he was terribly congested a week ago, it could also be from that...has your vet done any more xrays since? Because it seems to only happen when excited, I lean towards it being reverse sneeze...but a vet needs to diagnose this so you know for sure!

| OMG he sounds terrible, you should take him to a board certified specialist. Hopefully someone more medically savvy then myself will offer up more info. Keeping baby Leo in my prayers (((hugs)))

| I know!!! I feel so bad for him the vet listened to his lungs and says he sounds fine and is NOT congested so I think it may just be the sneezing...especially because it only happens in the mornings. It doesn't randomly happen at all. Like he won't be in his bed and all of a sudden starts coughing..it's only when he's super excited. I'll let you know what happens!

I don't know that any meds will really prevent it. If it is a reverse sneeze it is really not a problem. You can gently rub the front of his neck when he does it...or put your finger across his nose and he might stop.

| So an update! The doctor decided to go ahead with the neuter and he also got a retained baby tooth extracted. He was super groggy and out of it on Monday when he got the surgery and the next day a little more alert. Now he’s super alert and I’m checking his incision and it looks a little red and oozy. I’ve been at work all day for the past 2 days so I haven’t been able to keep an eye on him and see if he’s actually been licking it or not. Does this look ok to you guys for being 2 days post op? I took one with flash and one without. Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

| He is licking it! Get a collar on him now! He will make a big mess of it if you don't stop him.

| Grr I knew it! He’s soooooo freaking mischievous! I contacted Deb his breeder and she told me to put some neosporin on it so I did and 2 minutes later it was all gone because he licked it! I went straight to petco and got him an e collar and now he’s hating life LOL. No more licking for him! I put some more neosporin on it now before heading to bed and gave him his pain and inflammation meds.
