| Bella at the emergency vet for lung aspiration. I just got back from the University of Illinois 24 hour emergency vet clinic after dropping off Bella. This morning, she threw up on an empty stomach (diagnosed as bilious vomiting) and apparently aspirated some of the vomit into her right lung. She hacked and coughed continuously, and after about an hour and a half of this, I called the vet and took her in. Of course, she stopped hacking immediately as soon as we arrived at the clinic, but they listened to her lungs with a stethoscope and noted troubled breathing in her right lung. They are keeping her for lung x-rays and will call me soon after those are done so I can pick her up. If it's not bad, they will probably prescribe an antibiotic and perhaps a sedative to relieve the coughing so she doesn't make the inflammation worse, and maybe an antacid. They are charging only $100 for the emergency exam and $350 to $400 for the x-rays, which is a bargain, and I am VERY impressed with their facilities and level of care. I would highly recommend the U of I vet clinic to anyone in the east central Illinois area. I will give an update after the x-rays come back. |

| I have Bella back at home, and she is almost completely back to normal. Her lung x-ray came back clear, and her trachea x-ray showed no signs of collapsed trachea. She's still a little groggy from the sedation they gave her for the x-ray, but she's beginning to eat a little, and she has stopped coughing. The total charge was $340 for the emergency room visit and I am extremely pleased with the care she received. The emergency room vet and student interns were all doting on her . For east-central Illinois people, here is the link for the emergency vet clinic: Emergency Services . |

| That is terrific news, lucky you are so close to the clinic, so happy to hear Bella is ok. I never knew such a thing like that could happen,I will be very much aware of Cody should he ever vomit and starts coughing.

| If the dog inhales vomit, there is a chance of damaging the lung tissue, making the dog more susceptible to pneumonia. Fortunately, Bella got the all clear and she's complete back to normal. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | SO glad she is already back home and on the mend, phew! She is lucky...sometimes aspiration can be quite dangerous. Yay for Bella !

| I'm very happy to hear that Bella is okay and that her xrays brought good news. Very nice to have access to a great pet ER. Sounds like the one we have, although ours is not university affiliated. I had to bring Max in once and having read horror stories about ERs, I was anticipating having to hand over my credit card with my pup. I was pleasantly surprised that the experience was like going to our regular vet, with only a bigger, yet reasonable charge for the office visit.
