| No Appetite for Days and Diarrhea. 😢 . Our sweet baby is six years old, and has been in overall great health until last week. She started throwing up, and we had an out-of-town funeral to attend. So we took her with us and found a vet there to take her to as we attended the funeral. She says that her check-up went well, and that she gave her Sub Q fluids and a shot for the nausea. Now the nausea is gone. However, she now has diarrhea that has had mucus in it, but what I found at 3:45 AM just appeared to be a thin brown with no mucus (sorry for the detailed description). I have offered her chicken and rice and she will not eat. This is a dog that generally LOVES eating, and we have always been bad about giving her human food. She is drinking fine. I am not certain that they did a blood test, as I only saw an office exam, Sub Q, and whatever the nausea shot is called on the breakdown of her bill. Has anyone experienced this? I am heartbroken and worried sick. She also loves her family and wants to always be around us, but during the day she wants to be alone. She lays on a pillow under the bed instead of being in the living room with us. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT . This could be just a summer tummy bug that will take a little while to go away. But I think I'd take her to your regular vet and get a blood chem panel done, just to be sure her major systems are looking okay overall. To stim her appetite, I'd try making some baked white potato (or use canned), with a bit of butter spray on it...topped w/ some Parmesan cheese.

| Thank you for the warm welcome! And thank you for your response. I am baking a potato now. I have somewhat good news. She ate a few pieces of chicken, and is coming out from under the bed more. My husband said that dogs are like people, and that they want to rest and be left alone when they are sick. I thought she was upset that we left her at the vet, or that she blamed me for getting sick. This is her first illness. How long should I continue a bland diet? And will her tummy have to readjust to her dog food? It is a blessing to have a community that is more knowledgable than myself. |

If she does start vomiting again, I'd bring her in and just make sure it's not pancreatitis. Poor girl, I so hope she feels better soon .

| Welcome to YT! I have a baby that has tummy problems so I have been down this road before. When Rosie first gets sick he generally tells me that water is more important than food. Then I gradually introduce food back in to her. We use Hills I/D canned and dry food. It has helped her a lot. If she continues to have issues it could be an infection or pancreatitis which can be very serious. I would take her back in if it is continuing. Every time anyone gives my Rosie table food she gets sick. I would really monitor giving your baby any table food with a few exceptions. Rosie can eat boiled or baked unseasoned chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. Just be careful because it can be an issue. Hope your baby is better! Please update when you can!

| She is feeling better, but still not eating her normal amount and not begging table food. She played with her teddy bear for a short bit yesterday and today. And I did not wake up to any surprises in the kitchen floor. She is eating some, and her stools are firming up. Last night her tummy made some awful noise after she ate a little chicken. We feed her Blue Buffalo Grain Free. We have never had an issue but if she refuses it, we may look into switching. Thank you all for checking in on her. Dog is God spelled backwards for a reason. She has scared me to tears while she was in the peak of it. |

| I am glad to hear your baby sounds like she is feeling a little bit better and back on the mend. Lilah has definitely had her moments too- the things that bring her back are definitely plain chicken mixed with white rice and chopped steamed carrots and peas or she will get the baby food jars (we have some beech nut first bites type baby food jars sitting around for her) of plain chopped chicken in broth (no salt), for her little bits of string cheese and carrots will get a little in her belly and re stimulate her appetite again too, which is a big deal when she is on a pining bender! I love Ann's potato idea- even though Lilahs base food is duck and potato I had never thought of cooking her that before! Hope your little gal continues to improve, don't forget to promote fluids- salt free chicken broth or Pedialyte can be a great option.
