Urine sample - help please

I have always opted for the surgery and had the stones sent out for identification.

You certainly can try the diet ... I think it takes a long time though and there is a risk of infections or blockage during that time. I would discuss it thoroughly with the vet.

Yes, I am going to speak with the vet today. I was reading about bladder surgery and it is so scary. I am also concerned about blockage

I have had many pups with bladder stones and they had no issues whatsoever following surgery. My vet did some...but the others were done by a soft tissue surgeon. One that was done by a specialist ended up with a liver shunt....often pups with no symptoms of a liver shunt will end up with bladder stones as adults and that is when the shunt is discovered...here is a link about one of my pups who this happened to:

I have had many cystos done on my pups...matter of fact Rookie had one today and a culture sent out due to some issues he is having.

It is a very safe procedure and definitely the way to get a sterile sample.

What kind of stones were they?

107 barney is very knowledgeable w/stones...

I've only had to deal w/ struvite crystals, which can be dissolved by liquefying their diet.

They cannot know for sure what those stones are without removing them.

Exactly. I started a special diet and in a few weeks if the stones get smaller
Then we'll know they were struvite stones. I cross my fingers!

Bella's urine sample showed less crystals and PH went down to
6. I hope that her stones will clear without surgery

Hi everyone

I think Bella is doing MUCH better. She is back to peeing as normal
so the stones probably were struvites and the food helped.
The vet gave me "royal canin urinary SO" in case someone in the future experience the same issue with their Yorkie and read this message.
On May 24 she'll have another x-Ray so I will know for sure if the stones are gone.
