Default Maddies not right

She was just fine, running around and playing, then I gave them all a bath and blow dried them and about a half hour later I noticed she looked drunk. She weaves when she stands still and I watched her lean into the wall for a minute, then almost fall down when she went to walk. She'll get almost catatonic like and she'll look all vacant and stare off into space and then she'll snap out of it and become perfectly normal for a few minutes, then start doing that all over again. She's eaten that I know of, (Royal canin) and she has had water. Her gums are still pink . Nose is kind of dry. Heartbeat seems ok. We couldn't find the honey so we gave her some syrup, and we had to force her to take it. I was thinking maybe hypoglycemia ? She's going on 8 months give or take now. What else could cause this? It's almost as if she's half drunk. She's laying down now. But I'm worried. here's a video of her . She wasn't actually weaving as bad in the video of course.

I would have been at the vet within 20 minutes after the first episode....that kind of thing scares the chitt out of me! If she is eating, it isnt hypoglycemia....could she have gotten into something toxic? If she is still having this unnatural behavior, if she was mine, she would be at the vet! I dont do well with situations that I have no idea what is going on.....

I would have to be past the concerned state to the panic state before I'd take any animal to the emergency clinic in this area. More dogs than not that I know of end up getting the worst possible care there. And most of the time they don't fix or figure out anything and you still have to go to your regular vet the next day, only you have an $800 bill from the emergency clinic for doing nothing. On top of the cash you spent because they won't even look at the animal no matter how bad of a state they are in unless you at least have a couple hundred in cash to start with. They are awful awful awful. I know three vet techs that have quit working there because of how horrible they are. I could go on and on... But I waited about 45 min before I left and watched her breathing and kept checking her heart rate to make sure it wasn't dropping etc... If she hadn't of had those moments of clarity in between the weirdness I would have taken her to a clinic in the valley or something. But she seems just fine now. My roommate said she slept for awhile and woke up without acting weird at all. And when we got home she was jumping up and down and barking and raising hell like usual. So maybe the syrup worked. I don't rightly know. I'm just glad she's better

Poor girl. Wish our babies could tell us what is wrong. Sometimes pain can cause them to stand around and look confused. Max acted like that when he strained his neck/shoulders.

If she has another episode, I would consider back pain as a possibility.

Did she have heartworm preventative or any medication recently?

You say you don't like the emergency vets....so my question is this: Did you call her vet about this the next day? If not, I highly suggest you do it. Maybe best to make an appointment and take the video with you.
I am with Yorkiemom1...if my pup acted like that, vet immediately. I won't watch something like that hoping it goes away. I have seen many a pup die here on YT because people hesitated. You never know if there might be something that will show up right then that will not show up the next day...only to show up again when it is too late. I saw a pup with AAI die here like that.
There is NO substitute for a vet.

Adding to LJ's post above:

ER vets: check out the emergency vets in your area now so that when you need one, you won't be as concerned. I was afraid of them because I prefer to go to vets I know well.

From all the stories I had read, I had the impression that the ER takes your dog and your credit card into the back room and they don't let you have any say over anything. It's not like that.

Max ended up having an emergency and I didn't hesitate to go to the ER. Turned out to be a really good experience and now I'm over my fear. It was just like our regular vet where I got to stay with Max in the exam room and talk to the doctor.

I also wanted to clarify my post above when I mentioned that a confused look can be a sign of pain -- that is the way Max is, but it doesn't include "drunk" walking or hugging walls. Those symptoms are more worrisome and definitely worth follow up.

Also have to remember here that she stated in the General Forum, maybe this had to do with her boyfriend smoking pot !

So really not sure what is going on, but say's her dog is now fine.

I'm wondering whether it might have been a reaction to a grooming product in combination with the blow drying that caused her to inhale some toxic fumes. Or perhaps a reaction to either the shampoo or conditioner. Was there anything different about the products you used, or the way she was handled this time, compared to the last time she was bathed? In the video, it looks like the hair on her face is sticking together a little. Is that because she was still wet, or is there a possibility that not all of the shampoo or conditioner got washed out?
