Put your fears and concerns to rest and go for a second opinion. It will only cost about $150 for a boarded surgeon to view the xrays and examine her...and maybe a couple of hours out of a day. Well worth it for peace of mind imo. This is a puppy with a long life ahead of her.

I'm not understanding why it hasn't been put in a cast....if they feel it will heal on its own and doesn't require surgery it should still need to be immobilized. To prevent the bone from moving. I would def get a second opinion. It will be a shame to have more damage done bc it wasn't treated properly the first time, and so much time has passed since the accident. coming from experience with broken bones in my yorkie, surgery is very expensive and casting alone wasn't an option for me.

Im not sure but the ortho seems to think it will heal on its on. They do have a ortho surgeon that reads their xrays. They said that because its not giving her any pain and her showing zero sign now of injury that they wouldn't consider surgery unless it causes he pain. She is walking and playing now like nothing ever happened. The xray showed that it moved up but did not move out. They checked her for Luxating Patella also and said looked good and that leg didn't show any difference.

I am totally confused. You say there is an ortho there, but they have to send out to an ortho?

Just me...but unless one of them is board certified I would not be relaxed. The ONLY reason I commented further today was because you voiced concerns; but now you seem to once again be stepping back.

OK...I am kind of done with this because you seem very adverse to any opinions from us. But, I think you need to reread this above......and think long and hard. She is a puppy and you have every reason to be concerned .. yes, they often act like nothing is wrong when something IS wrong. that is their nature.

Years ago, my son's cat and my little Chihuahua were racing down stairs and the cat deliberately swiped at my baby and sent her tumbling down a flight of stairs....she broke her little front leg...we rushed her to a vet....they said it would heal on its own....and it certainly did just that...all deformed and crooked. As she grew, the bone did NOT heal all nice and straight and like it was supposed to....they should have at the very least, splinted that fracture....now, every case goes on its own merits, but this is why I respect specialists and really feel better when I get second opinions from the best, most qualified specialists available....especially when I find myself clueless and dependent entirely on what these people are telling me is the best recourse for my specific issue.....

I don't want to sound like I'm ganging up on you, but I agree with the others. Even though an orthopedic surgeon might be reading the x-rays, you also need to speak directly with an orthopedic surgeon to evaluate the best course of action. If it were me, I'd definitely get a second opinion directly from an orthopedic surgeon ASAP, before there is a chance for the bone to heal improperly.

An improperly healed bone will require a more difficult and expensive surgery than a surgery to get it fixed properly now. I would go straight to a specialist (and not the one that they used, just so that you can truly get a second opinion) and if they give you the same opinion, you can rest easy at night and stick your tongue out of us for being worry warts.

If they say that she does need surgery, you are getting it fixed while it is less complicated and costly.

Im sorry I somehow unsubscribed to the Thread and didn't know I had replies. Im still figuring all this out. The ortho surgeon is there in the office. I haven't directly spoken to him, However shes running and playing and it doesn't even seem like there's anything wrong now. I'm going to get her x-rays and have someone else to look at them for a 2nd opinion.
