Avulsion Fracture from Falling Off Bed Hi!! Im new to this Forum. I have been reading your story and have the same thing happen this morning. My 4 month old 2 lb baby fell off the bed it took two seconds and she had slid off :cry::cry::cry: and immediately favored her back leg. I took her to the vet and had xrays done. Ortho Surgeon looked at it and she has a avulsion fracture, they said it was still close to the bone and he thinks she will heal and wants to re xray next week but after reading this I am thinking surgery is my only option. Im so scared and fell like a horrible momma. Shes not in any pain just will not bear weight on her foot. |

If your puppy needs surgery, best to get it scheduled. If she is not bearing weight, it is painful. |
Thank you! Thats just the thing, the Ortho didn't seem to think she was going to need it that it will heal on its on with her being so young??? Everything I have read on it says shes going to need it. I guess Im just searching for reassurance of what he told me. |

Poor baby girl..so tiny and small!! At least the vet says she's going to be okay. I hope she's going to have a speedy recovery! best wishes  |
I know and I failed her. It just took two seconds for me to sit here there while I covered my Maltipoo up in the bed and from the time my hand left her she slid and fell. It breaks my heart!!! 😭😭😭😭 |

Was this a board certified surgeon who looked at her? |
I just did a look up for you. The closest boarded surgeons to you are in Chattanooga. If you have not seen a boarded surgeon, I would highly recommend visiting one for a second opinion. Thank you so much for taking the time to look that up for me. :) The Vet took Xrays and came back in the room and said there Orthopedic Surgeon reviewed her xray and and said she had a fracture where the bone had a small separation from the bone but he seemed to think her being so young and with create rest that she would start to heal. He didn't cast it or splint it. We go back next Tuesday for xrays if that piece has moved from the bone then he would do surgery and put a pin in to attach it back, if not then he thinks it should heal on its on. |

Hope all goes well ! |
I would get a second opinion. When Zoey needed surgery for Legge Parthes I saw three surgeons. |

Thank you all so much! Im so ready for Tuesday to get here to see if the bone has moved or if it looks like it will heal. She is on create rest and its horrible because she wants to play so much and she doesn't even act hurt but I know better! |
Any update on your little girl? |
She goes back tomorrow for a X-ray but she is putting weight on it and acting just fine so I am praying it's healing!! I'll update after her appointment tomorrow. Thank you for everyone la concern!! 😘😘 |
We just left the vet and the X-ray shows that the bone has moved up :( but that it wasn\'t causing her any pain and they did different things and range of motions and she didn\'t show and discomfort so she said that she would not recommend doing surgery on it that it looks like it should heal on its on. Gosh I hope they know what they are talking about. I just worry it might cause problems later...but she\'s acting fine she\'s out of create confinement and back in her play pen. |
