| Zyrtek Does anyone know the specific dosage for giving a yorkie Zyrtek? I have a call into my vet but realized I left my phone at home. He said to give them 5 mg but I can't remember if he said once or twice a day. Looking online I have seen Vet Clinic saying both to give it every 12 hours and other websites stating only give it once a day. I bought the generic form and on the package it says do not exceed one tablet a day. My boys are 12 and 14 pounds. |

| I was instructed to give Uni a 1/4 tab once a day, and if it didn't seem like it helped, then every 12 hours. Uni is about 6 lbs.

| You really should call your vet. You don't have to know this tonight and I would think most vets are open tomorrow. I am surprised you didn't call this afternoon when you posted here. A lot of people are hesitant to call vets .. not sure I understand why...but they are usually very good about answering such questions. Always better to get this stuff straight. Good luck.

| I actually had to go to the Vet on Wednesday to pick up the Temporal P and asked the Vet at that time I was told 5 mg once a day. The Zyrtek seems to be working better than the Benadryl. I have noticed less scratching. But they are still constantly licking their paws. I have a follow up call with the Vet in a couple weeks and will monitor them and see how they do. |

The meds that have success w/ allergies are Atopica and Apoquel...and then also Temaril-P, steroids, and allergy shots/drops. If allergies are all year round, then you really need to go with either Atopica or Apoquel. Btw, you do have to wait 10 days of giving Zyrtec or Claritin before evaluating whether it's working or not...
