| Luxating Patella - recovery experiences to share?? Lexi had her surgery a month ago, on both knees. She still slight hops on her right knee. The doctor says that's normal since it's only been a month. Last night she got a little excited with the kids and might have tweaked it a bit. I gave her pain meds and she's resting comfortably. She can walk but I can see that she's not putting a lot of weight on her knee. I will take her in Monday morning, hopefully it's nothing too serious. Hoping you can share your recovery experiences with me. She seems to have recovered well with the exception of last night. She does her walks nicely and we've been good about no running and jumping. She's 15 months old, 5lbs. Thank you! |

Yorkie Talker | My Xena is 1 year and had her left knee operation in July, and on the 3rd day she was starting to jump around and i was rather nervous. I hid all her toys, no jumping on beds/couches and and kept her indoors..rest was what she needed and lots of it. The medication made her groggy and she would try to jump and fall..so she was always supervised. She is recovering well and back to herself walking and jumping running and still sometimes picks her leg off the ground. I'm hoping its just a habit and still the recovery and getting used to her all fours. Her vet says he is happy with her recovery and it will take time for her to use her leg 100% and a gradual process.I am relieved that she is in no more pain.I will take her back again for a check up this week. I'm sure they will make full recovery, its harder on us...My daughter told me this morning I am over protective of Xena - I cant help it..lol |

| My Max is 13 now and had both knees fixed at least 10 years ago. While Max currently has other medical problems, his knees have been fine ever since his operations. Your Lexi should do just fine. Very soon you won't even be able to tell she had a problem at all. Take care. Jim |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Our Wylie had LP surgery on both knees at one time and he did great - really no limping/skipping afterward except for maybe like 3 times total...? If even that. Some will have a bit of occasional limping afterward here and there, but I would def be cautious like you're being now...

| Sammy had his surgery in October and he is just about 8 weeks out and he is going for his regular walks but still on leash. The Dr states he can start using stairs. That was at 6 weeks but I decided to wait till the 8th week just in case. I still do not allow jumping or playing with other dogs but ....... he snuck past me this morning and jumped on the couch. He just wants to be a dog again but he is not ready for that yet. I see him skip with the leg every now and then but the doc did say he would have good days and bad days but the surgery went well and Sammy was healing fine. I am overprotective too. We are both still sleeping on the floor LOL |
