| Both are throwing up - Help! Friday Daisy threw up a thick yellow pile of vomit outside and she had beige runny poo. She also seemed to be having some urine leaking, so I took her to the vet yesterday. He gave me Metronidazole and DES O 1mg capsule to help with incontinence. I gave her both yesterday. She seemed to feel pretty good yesterday. Her urine checked out ok and she had no fever. Then we noticed that one of them threw up 3 piles with undigested kibble yesterday. Teddy was the only one who ate kibble so we think it was him. This morning I woke up to find a spot of yellow stuff on the bed. It wasn't frothy like bile. I don't know what it was. I went to the kitchen and Daisy was near the back door and there were three big spots of runny brown vomit by the back door. Daisy did eat some canned Hills d/d salmon yesterday and seemed to have a good appetite. Teddy ate some Hills d/d salmon kibble and seemed fine too. So I'm trying to figure out why they are both sick. They have not been around any other dogs to catch anything. The only thing they both ate in common was Hills hypo allergenic bones and pill pockets in duck and pea flavor for allergic dogs. I'm wondering if it's the pill pockets? They have successfully eaten 3 bags of them but I wonder if we got a bad bag. I just opened a new bag. Teddy takes Enalapril 5mg 1 1/2 pill daily, in two separate doses. Daisy gets Denamarin and now the other two drugs I mentioned but only had one dose of the DES yesterday. I have to watch Teddy for pancreatitis because he seems to get occasional mild cases. This morning his tummy is rumbling so I gave him Kayopectate, it always helps him. I am not comfortable with a holiday weekend and I can't call the vet. I sent an email to Daisy's vet but I don't know if they check them on weekends. He told me yesterday to keep Daisy STRICTLY on her hypoallergenic diet with no cheating...I guess he suspects something she got into made her sick. But why is Teddy sick too? I was giving Daisy her Denamarin in cream cheese because it is a huge pill and she will swallow it without chewing it if I put it in cream cheese. The vet said no more cream cheese, use pill pockets only. Should I give them boiled hamburger and rice until I can talk with the vet? I don't know if the food is making them sick. I don't want them vomiting two more days before the vet is open again. I'm going to stop giving the pill pockets until I can figure this out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

| I don't really have any idea as to why they are vomiting but I would stay away from the boiled hamburger - too much fat - and use chicken instead.

| Oh no, poor Daisy and Teddy Bear! Have you been out walking in your neighborhood or anywhere else together? Max and Teddy picked up a virus once that caused them to vomit yellow bile for 24 - 36 hours. They did not have direct contact with dogs, but sniffed a lot where lots of dogs walk.

| I feel a bit under qualified on this board but all 3 of our pups came down with a bug last week. The vet and others seem to think one got it on an excursion outside and passed it to the others via the water bowl. Meds and a ground turkey/sweet potato diet seems to be helping slowly. Vomiting and diarrhea were the original symptoms. Appetites, energy and spirits have remained pretty good. |

| Thanks for the suggestion. I wish I could use chicken but Daisy is allergic. Not sure if ground turkey would be a good sub for chicken??? Ant ideas?

The vet kept asking about what they ate, that's why I'm thinking food, but we didn't know Teddy was sick too til after I got home from the vet with daisy. Disney Max and Teddy eat anything during that time? Did they need fluids?

| The only other thing I can think of is they got their Frontline Plus on Sept 2. I don't know if it could be a late reaction? They are 11 and 12 years old and it never bothered them before.

| That's an odd coincidence. Mama treated our 3 with Advantage(?) not long before our 3 got ill. I hadn't even thought of that as a possible cause. We don't have fleas but when I found the first tick ever(almost non existent in Western WA) on one of our pups, she brought out the poison. I couldn't talk her out of it, I tried. Ours range from 8 months to only God knows how old, he's really old though. |

| I don't think you need to worry about the Frontline causing this. If Daisy and Teddy have not been out of the yard, sounds like maybe it might be food, but it's still weird that they both would come down with it. Max and Teddy did not have any changes in their food, so that why I'm convinced it was a virus. Also because it lasted only a day. Teddy was first, then Max had it 48 hours later. Like Mark wrote, I think they passed it to one another. Hydration: my boys are really good water drinkers, and I just kept an eye on their gums, making sure they stayed pink and wet to the touch. The boys were a bit lethargic from the vomiting though. I think I withheld food for the day so that they didn't keep vomiting, and to give their systems a rest. We don't have any hypoglycemia or other health concerns related to withholding food though.

| I should add that M&T did not lose their appetites when they had it. They wanted to eat, but it would come right back up. That is why I withheld food. Frontline Plus: Cathy gives it to her seniors without problem. Barney just turned 15.

| Daisy seems to be taking big drinks of water the last few days and peeing more. John said he noticed Teddy going to the crate and drinking from the hamster water bottle in there. They have both had recent bloodwork which was ok. This incontinence thing is new. She just got over a UTI which is new for her too. Gosh it seems like there is always something to worry about with these little guys. I probably worry too much.

I guess it is possible they have a bug. It sounds like what Max and Teddy had.

| I agree that it seems like there is always something to worry about. Try withholding the pill pockets, if you can. Crossing fingers and paws that your babies will be back to normal by tomorrow and that this will just be a mysterious episode.

| Thanks for letting me know about Cathy and Barney. I watch her posts closely since she is dealing with some of the same issues that I am with my seniors. I hope she knows how helpful her posts are to others. AND God Bless little Barney, what a guy!
