Trying to guess what is wrong Hi all, having some issues today and trying to figure out what's going on. Bella did not eat much yesterday, and has been up all night and so far all day today just walking around the house. She is not interested in any types of her normal food, seems a little disoriented at times like she isn't completely focusing in on what she is looking at. We can't get her to stop by holding her, she will be calm for a minute or two but then will squirm as violently as she has to until we put her back down. She will still come running to follow us around, especially to the kitchen, but when we sit back down, back to the pacing. Anyone out there ever experience this? |
Changes in eating and behavior -- definitely time for a vet visit. Pacing and lack of focus are sometimes related to neuro problems, but it could also be a sign of pain caused by something else, or a behavioral reaction to something. So many possibilities. Sending best wishes for your little girl. |
I would be looking for an ER vet, "seems a little disoriented" is not normal. |
Oh poor baby. Dogs will pace when in pain , discomfort and stress. Sometimes it is a obsessive compulsive behavior. I would think where as he didnt eat he must be in pain. Did he get into anything he was not supose to eat? |
Not that I am aware of. She doesn't show any other symptoms that would lead me to think she is in pain. Just to be sure, we are taking her to the vet today. Just a few minutes ago, she finally settled down and stopped the pacing. Probably about to go spend $150 to find out she was just feeling wired for some reason, but it is worth it if it brings some sort of answer. |
Sammie will sometimes run around the house like he is on to something. But he is smelling the floor the whole time. I had an older dog that would pace but he was a very anxious dog and would whine the whole time. Let us know what the vet says |
Does she want to play? Will she even eat high-value treats that she normally would not turn down? It all sort of depends on how disoriented you really think she is; if it seemed like just a slight tummy thing, I'd likely wait a day if it were me. If it was true disorientation though, that would scare me. |
Go to the vet now. That's not normal. Praying for good news. |
Well, we took her to the vet and her white blood cells were quite high. Good news, that pretty well rules out distemper, bad news is that it is some bacterial infection that was not eradicated on the last round of antibiotics. Add to that her small size and allergy to amoxicillin and it limits what we can use to fight it. The vet was also concerned about her disorientation, but much more so before the bloodwork ruled out distemper. My little girl may have some slight drain bramage but we will get her healthy first and cross that bridge when its time. |

Happy to hear she is on the mend so far. How old is your baby, you never mentioned that. Keeping her in my prayers for a full recovery. BTW there is NO SUCH THING as a spoiled yorkie lol. |

How is she doing today> |

While not common distemper vaccines do fail - my hubby lost a 4yr old mutt to distemper despite being full up to date on all vaccines. |

She was whelped on 1/11. So just about 4.5 months now. |

Happy to report that after getting settled down, a full tummy and a good nights rest, we have a terrierist again today. So a happy day in our house. Mommy was so happy she went out and bought some new clothes for the girl. Pic to follow. |
1 Attachment(s) Pic of a much happier little girl as promised. Had to use the dress because I can't show my precious little girl in the Florida Gators jersey mom bought her. :questione We have a house divided here but unfortunately, in the local area here in Fl, there is no University of Oklahoma things to be had for her. |

Fun stuff! Thank you for the link.:D |
One last update. She went back to the vet yesterday and her blood work was back into the normal enough range. The stress and activity of the day led to another episode of her getting really tired and pacing around. We put her in her car carrier so she couldn't walk around and she eventually went to sleep. Crisis averted and we now have a working solution in case she ever gets into that yellow zone before it gets red. And today as I type this, she is laying on her favorite blankie, on her back with all four legs in the air sleeping. |
Did they every come up with a diagnosis why she paces around. Was she disoriented this time to? Poor baby I hope they can help her. |
It seems to be related to getting too tired. It almost mimics low blood sugar. Disorientation sets in as she gets more tired. No diagnosis yet. Might be neuro related, but haven't started trying to chase it down yet. Looking for a week or two without a trip to the vet first. Bella has already paid for his first trip to Aruba! |
Well, the hits just keep on comin'. As it turns out, I am almost completely convinced that the pacing, spacing out, and other things that we are seeing is a liver shunt. Like I have said before, I have found the Holy Grail of vets, he is a Yorkie lover, owner and has bred them in the past. We are going in on Wed. for the ultrasound and liver test. I am praying that it is a surgically repairable problem so we can finally get this poor little soul the puppyhood she deserves. I wish we could have gotten her in today because I am getting really worried about her having a seizure. I keep asking how such a little fighter should have to face all of these problems. She still follows us where ever we go and she seems to try so hard to be a puppy. Why do such perfect little animals have to suffer so? Just makes me so freaking mad, and breaks my heart all at the same time. I promised this puppy when we first found out her problems that I would make her healthy and give her a long life. I don't intend to renege on that now, or ever.:mad: |
Poor baby I am praying you find out what it is and he gets better soon. Keep us updated. |
Keeping baby Bella in my prayers, she's such a little cutie. |
