Well, congratulations. So happy Bella is healthy. You & I have babies the same age. I'm been thinking about a brother for Ruger. Thank God he is healthy as we speak. Next week we are having BAT a week before he's nurtured just to check that his liver is good. He's been a handful as a puppy. He's so sweet, but soooo active, which I think is good, but I'm soooo ready for bed every night. Just not sure how 2 puppies would be like. Let me know when you get yours & and all the perks that go with having 2 young yorkies. Best wishes |
Updates I was contacted by a member who reminded me that I did not give any updates here on Bella's progress with her liver shunt. Well, we have had the one and three month post operation visits. Her fasting Bile Acid Test around the time of surgery was around 150 mu, at her one month test it was 108, and at three months it was 58. Upper end of acceptable normal is 25, and optimal is 10 or less, so there is still some coming down to do, but the Dr. was thrilled with the results and went so far as to say that she thinks the surgery will be an overall success. Thank you to everyone who followed this tread and to our lurker who reminded me that it is important to keep the updates coming. At the 6 month check, I hope to be able to report that everything is normal and we are no longer even concerned. I can say that Bella shows no signs of any problems at all and that the promise I made to her that she would be happy and healthy seems to have been kept so far! We are, needless to say, thrilled. Again I want to thank you all for your support and prayers as we went through the hard times. And, even though they will never see this, thank you to Dr. Wallace and the incredible team that we dealt with at the University of Florida! |
Latest update, when we took Bella back for her 6 month check up and the news was not good. Her numbers are back up to around the level they were at one month after the surgery. We are starting her on Denamarin for the Milk Thistle in it and other kidney support it offers and hope that will help bring the numbers back down. My only real concern is that there may be secondary shunting. We brought Bailey home just before Christmas and I will say that if Bella is having any issues, it is tough to see as they are currently chasing each other around the house and barking with merriment. |
dog I just read all of your posts. I see the power of prayer as Bella had many praying for her. I will be asking the Lord for healing totally for Bella. We have His promise of hearing every prayer we ask. We must trust Him with all our hearts for no one loves animals more than Jesus. He gives them to us to care for them and that is a gift. Anyone knowing the love of a dog knows how great dogs are for us. I Want Bella to be well and we will all surround her and your family with prayer. |
Thank you for your prayers and your thoughts. We have Bella on Milk Thistle now and will report back in a couple of months when we take her back to see if the numbers are getting any better. |
Great news! We took Bella back for her first test since starting her on Denamarin (Milk Thistle) Her numbers were great! Her pretest number was in the normal enough at 30 last test it was over 100, but her post test number which shows the actual workings of the liver came back at a 1.5!!! That is considered on the low end of the scale! To the sage and wise people on this forum who led me to the Milk Thistle, to all of the people who have been there for advice, guidance, prayers and support.... THANK YOU ONE AND ALL! We will be doing the next test in 6 months, and if the numbers are still down, we will probably only do it once a year or if we see something out of the ordinary. So this thread will be dormant again for a while. |
Wonderful news!! I've just read this entire thread and im so glad for you and Bella that she is thriving and doing well. She is a beautiful girl and she is lucky to have such wonderul parents to give her the best shot at a normal life! I hope she continues to be a happy healthy girl! All the best with the new pup too! P.s my husband works in retail management too and it's grueling! |
