She made it!
 
So, just got back from the hospital and the news is as good as it can be. The shunt was very evident and the procedure went as expected. They were able to spay her at the same time so her little body (God willing) will not have to be cut on again. I won't be able to see her until tomorrow. She gets very wiggly when she sees her mom and dad and the Dr. wants to keep her as calm and quiet as possible. They will watch her for the next couple of days for post-operative seizures but that would seem to be the last of the high hurdles for this go round.
Again, I thank you all for your prayers and support. I can get through just about anything but this little soul just tugs at my heart in a way that no one else can.

I am so happy that Bella came through the surgery well. Praying that she doesn't have any post-operative seizures and that her recovery goes smoothly. Keeping you and your wife in my prayers also because you two are the ones under the most stress and also need prayers said for you.

I get to go see her in an hour. Updates to follow but the Dr. says that she is acting normal and eating/drinking.

When you bring her home if you want an alternative to the cone, the onesie is working great for Bonnie. I cut an area away to make it easy for her to potty but still keeps her sutures covered.

What great news!! This just made my day:) I'm so glad to hear Bella came through with flying colors and will pray for a super speedy recovery, Bless her little heart..

Not what I expected!
 
I have to admit that I anticipated seeing a slow moving, sore, kinda down little girl when I went to see her. What I saw blew me away.. When they brought her into the room, she started doing her squirmy, wiggly thing in the Dr.'s hands, then they put her on the floor and she ran across the room to see me and start licking me. Her little tail was going crazy, she was wiggling and licking and generally acting like she was feeling pretty good. I don't know if it is just really realllly good pain meds, if she has just lived with a certain amount of pain from her condition, or if she is just that tough and the Docs just that good. They are watching her like a hawk for seizures, but I didn't see anything that would give me any reason for hesitation. She has a soft cone on and of course she hates it, but when she did that whole body shake thing because it was irritating her, I could not believe that it didn't seem to hurt her. I know I would NOT be feeling my oats like that if they had left a comparable sized cut on me!

Oh, I am so happy to hear Bella is back to being a happy, squirmy, yorkie :)and that she seems to be recovering nicely from her surgery. Poor baby having to wear that cone but I guess it is the best for her right now. Hopefully she will get used to it before too long. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I would love to try this idea but I am honestly not sure they make one small enough to fit my 2 pounder.

They make premie sizes which are pretty small. Also, if you wash the cotton ones in hot water, they shrink😀

I hope you find one that works...it's been a life saver for Bonnie. She is so much more comfortable. I don't remember which thread I read it on...but it's a great idea.

I am sure they do. When I was shopping for one for Elliot (she was 3 lbs. when I bought it), they had ones smaller than the one I purchased for her. They had newborn sizes and preemie sizes which were smaller than the XS one that I bought.

Brought her home on Friday afternoon. The problem that we are having at the moment is trying to keep her from running amok. I can honestly say that the Small Animal Hospital at UF was without a doubt the best care facility that I have ever seen for dogs.
She is on Hills prescription, Keppra for a while to mitigate any seizures, Lactulose to get all of the yucky out of her bloodstream and an antibiotic to cover the rest of the bases. She will get her stitches out on this coming Friday and will be terrier-ing things up from there on out!

Amen to that! Yorkies are da bomb! Mom went out and found a doggy dress that covered her stitches perfectly and an inflatable soft collar that we put on her at night to be extra safe. I know that the pictures are bad, but this little girl has a thing about staying still, and my phone camera flash causes my phone to shut down when I try to use it...

She is so sweet w/ her pretty little dress. Where do go from here? Do the Doctors say everything is fixed & she shouldn't be bothered ever again?
How old is she? I have "Ruger" 5 months. He's certainly a "pistol ". Can't get good pix either because when not asleep he's never still.
Please keep us informed on her progress. Tried sending pix. Can't figure how to turn it. It's loaded the right way, but when I download to this its sideways. Go figure.

Best case is that she is fixed and will be able to have a long and healthy life. She will likely stay on lower protein food for the duration, but can still have all the cheerios, fruits and veggies that she likes. She turned 5 months old the day after her surgery. Main difficulty right now is trying to keep her from running or playing too hard. Pretty sure that is like telling her she can't breathe... But we are trying. Going to leave the stitches in for the full 14 days on the advice of our vet, but once those are out we just wait for the surgery to do its thing. She goes back for a 1, 3, and 6 month check up and Liver BAT. That should tell us what, if any, meds she will be on and what kind of diet she will need to keep.
Ruger is quite the handsome devil, Bella might be smitten.

I am so happy to hear that Bella is home and doing well. Hoping all continues to go well and that your only problem will be keeping her from running around too much.
