| HELP!!!! Hip/Back Leg pain Gabby, my 1 year old yorkie-4 pound, was fine this morning when she got up but later in the day she started laying around. The problem is she can't get comfortable. She will lay in one spot approximately 1 minute and move to another position. It is like she can't seem to get comfortable. She acts like it is her hip/back legs that hurt. When she lays down she puts her bottom up in the air and lays her head on her front paws, leaving her back legs standing instead of bending them to lay down. She hasn't slept due to not getting comfortable. Help! Should I take her to vet or what? She has been to the vet for a luxating patella but the vet didn't feel it was to the degree to do anything just yet. He suggested just to watch it and see if it got any worse. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | The answer is yes take her in tonight if at all possible. Also keep her crated or penned until you see the vet. She does have classic pain signs. You need to get to the bottom of it.

| I am glad you are going to a vet. It sounds like either her tummy or her back. Either way, she really needs to be seen.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I concur with LadyJane. The vet should have done an Xray to rule out hip dysplasia and or Leggs Calves Perthes Disease. The vet should have been able to tell if your boy has Luxating Patella and or if an ACL tear is also suspected. I don't know how old your boy is but his movement patterns are definitely abnormal - as you can tell. Depending upon what is going on with your boy - yes there are some natural remedies that can assist in arthritis and hip dysplasia - but you need to get a good diagnosis first. Natural remedies will not cure any arthritic condition but can help/assist your dog live a more comfortable life.

| Sasha was diagnosed with Legges. She had the top of her femur removed about 2 months. ago. she always did the same thing that you just described. She would put her front two paws down but her back two legs would stay up in the air. she is running around and recovering nicely from the surgery. Hopefully in about 4 months she will be pain free and completely normal. When Gabby is running or walking does she lifts one of her legs up in the air and walk or run on 3 feet?

| Charlie is about 8yrs. old. I will take him in and have the doctor X ray him and find out what's going on in his hips. It seems more predominate on the right side. He lays on his left side most of the time. What's weird is that after he gets up he starts limping so I don't know what side it is. I definitely need to take him in. I read up on Yorkies and one thing they said was they are predisposed to hip dysplasia. Also, the reason I don't know his exact age is he was owned by a woman that was in an accident and had to give him up because she was no longer able to take care of him. She gave him to another gal who had him for 1 1/2 years. The only thing she said she had done was his teeth. She wasn't sure how old he was. She said the vet told her his teeth made her think that he was about 8-9yrs. old. Sure can't tell by his attitude. He plays like a puppy. He has lost most of his teeth (15 so far) mostly on the left side. Poor guy. |
