| Who knows anything about "throm bo cytopenia" I just received a call from someone who adopted a puppy from me a couple weeks ago. She is average sized, who left my home at 11 weeks of age, to all appearances healthy and alert - - having had only 1 5-way puppy shot. Her vet recommended that the puppy be given a lepto shot - and she was. I had admonished the lady who adopted my little girl Do Not Give Lepto. The puppy was lethargic, bleeding from her mouth and was taken to the vet days after her 2nd shot. She was sent to a specialist. Now we are being advised that they believe she has an auto immune disorder (noted above), or perhaps is reacting to her 1st shot, which was given while she was with me; or possibly a reaction to a tick. She was given a blood transfusion yesterday, as she had been bleeding internally (from the 2nd shot). Does anyone have any knowledge if this could be a reaction to a Lepto vaccine? Please keep our little girl in your prayers. Thanks. |

| I did Lepto for years without an issue. Autoimmune issues are tough and can just come on. I have a friend whose dog had an autoimmune issue from a tick. I'm hoping this puppy turns around.

| Puppy is on the mend. I got word that she is on the mend, and doing much better. Although they are waiting for a report as to tick bite infection (she wasn't outside and we don't have ticks in the winter months in my are), I believe that report will come back negative. The specialist is looking at her initial 5 way puppy shot as to what brought on the immune disorder. I've never dealt with such an issue before. I am a small hobby breeder with maybe 2 litters per year. I am more than a little freaked out by this entire situation and need to know how this occurred. I have, of course, already decided not to breed this girl's mother again. She is out of Ch. Hylan Acres lines and never had a moment's health issue in her life. Thanks. |
