| Bijou needs prayers... I need prayers tonight for my yorkie boy Bijou. He was diagnosed with an elongated palate when he was anesthetized for a dental a couple months ago. He has lived with this condition, undiagnosed for most of his life...but the symptoms (choking and gagging due to the palate obstructing his airway) have increased over the past week and is really bad tonight. He used to have short-lived symptoms only when he was excited. Now he is experiencing symptoms even at rest. I know there is a surgical procedure to fix this condition, but he is 10 and the procedure is quite costly (for me anyway). I gave him some benedryl in hopes of reducing the secretions ( he has a slight runny nose). He is my first yorkie and has been my faithful boy thru the many struggles and illnesses I've endured. He is my heart and soul...I love him so much. :'( <3 |

| Poor little guy Definitely, at least, talk to the vet about managing the symptoms. I'll say a prayer.

| You bet I'll be praying the house down for little Bijou! Try not to worry so. They come through surgery just fine these days.

| Thank you for your prayers and support. Bijou is doing better tonight. Benedryl seems to help but he is going to the vet tomorrow to see if steroids may help in a crisis like I had last night. |

| My Tibbe makes many throat sounds and seems to have some difficulties snort-breathing when he gets hyperexcited. How did Bijou start out showing problems and what are his symptoms like?

| Bijou has had what sounds like reverse sneezing all his life...that snorting sound when he'd get over excited. He has tolerated the symptoms well until recently. I would still assume it was reverse sneezing, if not for the diagnosis he got from his vet while getting a dental. The elongated palate can only be diagnosed under general anesthesia. When she tried to put the breathing tube in she was able to make the diagnosis. I want to thank you all so much for your prayers. Since that night that I posted he has only had a few minor episodes. Never underestimate the power of prayer. My baby's tongue was blue...he was not getting oxygen sufficient for sustaining life. Amazing! |
