| Anything I can/should do? My little Billi just spent the last several days at my Grandmothers since we had to go out of town and couldn't bring her. My Grandmother is a mostly great puppy-sitter, but she spoils her rotten and over-feeds her- gives her too much people food. I've asked her repeatedly to tone it down and I thought she had, but she told me Billi was given several small bites of home-made jerky over the weekend and now I'm a little concerned. I got Billi home last night and she seemed fine, maybe a little tired tho. Late this morning she ran outside and had multi-colored diarrhea and it looked mucousy, too. She's been gagging off and on all day. I cut off most of her food- she hasn't had much of an appetite anyway. I've given her a small dose of immodium after I saw her diarrhea, and tried to give her a little pumpkin, but she won't eat it. She's slept off and on today and while I can tell this isn't an emergency, she does seem uncomfortable at times when she is awake. She's gagged repeatedly, but hasn't actually vomited. I tried to offer a little water a few minutes ago and it made her more nauseous and you can hear her poor, tiny tummy gurgling. Is there anything else I can do for her? Do you think it's the jerky that's affecting her? Should I give her some Pepto and if so how much? I plan on calling the vet in the am, but am curious if anyone has info tonight since my vet thinks I'm a little bit of a puppy-hypochondriac.

| It is possible that there is some jerky caught in her throat. Throwing up can dehydrate her very quickly. I know that some people use over the counter meds for their pups,I am not one of them, unless my vet oks it. All of my dogs are very small and it wouldn't take much to overdo. If this were my baby, I would be going to the vet now. Grandma needs to be told that if it doesn't say "fill in the name of your dog food" then DONT give it to the pup. Their little systems can be tipped the wrong way very easially. It is easier and waaaay cheaper for whoever cares for your pup to just NOT feed new foods. |

| I would be inclined to take her to the vet and test her for pancreatitis. Sending healing wishes to Billi.

| hmmm. I would find out exactly what is meant by homemade jerky? is there seasoning involved? Some people just dehydrate plain meat and call it jerky. You might want to talk to Grandmother and find out so you are ready for the vet (it will also give you a way to kindly let her know tummy is upset) Tummies make noise and when trying to digest, I have had this happen to me when I eat beef A trip or talk with the vet will probably make you feel better and may help her too. try some low sodium chicken broth, then add a little rice or baby rice cereal. |

| I actually brought Billi into the vet last week for a check up since I've been paranoid about her getting pancreatitis and my vet gave her a clean bill of health and said he wasn't worried about her getting it any time soon. He actually raises yorkies as well, so I'm inclined to believe him on that, tho I know he thinks I'm hyper sensitive about Billi anyway. She vomited a couple times last night and kept me up half the night. It wasn't an emergency situation, you could just tell she felt crappy so I brought her in this morning to get checked out again. Again he said she's healthy as can be but has an upset GI, probably from the people food my grandmother gave her over the weekend. He gave an injection in the base of her neck with some medication to settle her stomach and some antibiotics and she'll have bland food for the next day or so. So glad there isn't a blockage in there or anything serious. Really frustrated with my family about feeding her this crap tho.

This isn't the first time this happened when I left Billi with her for a few days and I thought I made it abundantly clear not to give her any food that I didn't expressly say is ok- she said she understood but since this keeps happening I'm not really comfortable with leaving Billi or our new pup with her overnight anymore. Sucks cause I know Billi LOVES going to her house and I know my grandmother would never do anything to hurt her, but this vet visit cost us another $145 today. Over beef jerky. It's not ok. I'm pissed.

I would give a BIG TALK to your family AGAIN about the food issue and then I would present them with the Vet Bill and tell them they have to pay for their obvious lack of judgement in refusing to do what you ask.

| I did a quick search and it's not totally common, but certainly a possibility that there's garlic in it. There's ginger too, which I'm not sure if that'd affect our little ones negatively, but why would you chance it? Given how defensive my grandmother got when I told her about the vet visit, I don't think she'll be giving the the recipe any time soon.
