| Back sensitivity My dog has recently developed an extreme sensitivity on her lower back when pet. We went to the vet and her X-rays came back fine and her blood work came back fine. She was checked for fleas and that was fine, and no irritation on her skin. We recently doggy-sit my fiances moms dog- who is also a yorkie. He is fixed and she is spayed. My fiances mom is claiming that her new sensitivity could have been due to sexual activity between the two dogs. Is this possible? Her sensitivity doesn't seem to be causing her pain and she enjoys being rubbed on her back. Her head goes up, her tongue licks the air, and her legs seem to twitch in excitement. She has also been running her back underneath the chair legs and licking/biting near her hind Legs. My vet seems to think there is nothing wrong with her behavior. Please help! | Hi and welcome to YT. I am sorry your Yorkie is having problems. I only have a neutered boy dog so hopefully someone with a girl dog can advise you. Best wishes.

| Sounds like a tickle spot. A few of my dogs have had them, sometimes if you touched it you could actually see the skin wrinkle up. |

| My moms dog has off and on issues where if certain spots on his spine are touched he will twitch and the vet has diagnosed him with IVDD and there is pain associated with that if that's what it is. Most of the time it only shows up on MRIs.

| Our senior weenie does this but she has skin allergies. Mainly fleas but she has some other allergies as well that aren't as severe. She just likes to be itched....and her spine is her favorite spot. When u itch her spine area she just sits there her tiny little t Rex legs twitching and her back will kind of squinch up....but she enjoys it. Maybe her skin is dry and it just feels good when you itch her? |

| Yeah- I'm thinking maybe it is just dry skin or allergies? She also has been licking her paws and biting at her tail/back area. Thank you!! |

| That sounds like allergies. I have been dealing with the same issues with Buster. I just did an allergy panel and he is allergic to a lot of the food that I was feeding him.

| What kind of panel did you do? My vet says there is nothing to test for food allergies at this time just food trails.

| I did a blood panel. I have since learned it is not as good an indicator on food allergies as it is on environmental allergies. I am going to try the Jean Dodds saliva test once his issues have calmed down a bit because some of his borderline positive results may be as a result from his being in a heightened allergic state when we did the blood tests. I was a bit upset that they combined the fish all together as fix mix, they did split out Salmon and combined all berries as berry mix. I had to quit giving him his fish oil for his skin and so many good foods have blueberries or cranberries as an antioxidant. I wish they would have split them out since I paid for over $500 for the two panels I would have thought they would.

| I figured that is what you meant I has been hard for me as well because I have found only one kibble that does not have any of his food allergy items and it has a lot of salt. He has put his weight back on so he is back to being obese and that is bad for his knees and he is still breathing hard/stuffy. No sure if allergies or due to weight and he is still chewing at his paws

| My dog has become sensitive to touch on her back the last few months. When I touch her she shivers and shakes a bit. I have also noticed certain spots on her back are warmer. My vet said it may be allegories, but this continued after grooming and she has no hot spots. Should I be concerned? Last edited by Wylie's Mom; 11-17-2014 at 10:30 AM. |
