Yes! Considering all the heartbreaking, horrendous animal stories we hear day in day out, it always brightens my "animal heart space" (lol whatever THAT is, but it's there, in a big way) to hear of a kiddo being helped, and in such a big way. The small ways count too, of course, don't mean to downplay those.

It is because of you and so many others that we do what we do, Ann. We could not do it alone and YES, it does help to erase the pain that we must deal with on a daily basis. This gal and also Lily Rose were the ones that really jumped out recently, but yes, there are the smaller ones too....it all adds up to awesome stuff. The reward in it all is seeing these pups thrive in the forever homes we find for them.

The only surgeon who does that surgery at GCVS was out last week and is booked solid this coming week. There isn't another surgeon I would go to so this is just how it has to be. Plus, they want her to be two weeks away from her spay. She is on pain meds and antibiotics.

Normally we would probably think about doing both at the same time. The specialists we use often will spay when doing other procedures.

This could not be put off. We did what was in her best interests.

Not with the possibility of her being pregnant. Number one, it was possibly a large dog that she was with, and number two, if we let it go and the puppies were viable, I would not wish to abort ....then it would be even longer before she could have the surgery on her ears. Not to mention the fact that she could die having those puppies. Ideally, both surgeries could have been done at the same time, but as I said in the original post, the surgeon at GCVS who does this surgery was out of town this week and the surgery while important, was not an emergency that would make me drive to Texas A&M for it as that would have been the only other option. And, honestly, I much prefer the surgeon at GCVS who does these surgeries. She is totally awesome!

She is being medicated for her discomfort.

I am late to knowing about this sweet little thing. Glad she is getting the best care ever and I cannot even imagine how much pain she had been in.

Funny how things always work out as they should. This time I am spending with Josie before her surgery has been interesting. She clearly has allergies! She has started itching like mad, licking her paws, laying on her back and wiggling and scratching those ears (ouch). Took her to my vet and she ran bloodwork for allergies and then gave her a Dex injection to calm this. She will take Temeril P for now until we get the testing back. This worked out perfectly because it can take 2 - 3 weeks for that test (VARL) to come back.
I shared this on another thread, but anyone considering allergy testing, call your vet and ask if they know about the discount coupon VARL is offering. I only paid $150 for her test! That is a good price!

How great that you're with her bc you're tuned in to allergies...and now she'll feel even better! Little punkin butt is such a cutie.

Thanks, Ann. She really is a cutie....in personality as well. Total sweetheart! I cannot wait to get her all fixed up and feeling well.
