| I just checked his ears and they look normal, he feels a warmer than usual though, almost like he is sweating. |

The way he is lying on his belly differently, along with all of the other atypical behavior indicates pain. I would go to the vet (and hold the pepperoni!).

| This has gone on all day now.....I would personally have been to the vet already. I do hope you mean it when you say you will go tomorrow. He needs to be seen!

| Rubbing his face & shaking his head like he's wet, a spicy piece of pepperoni could be stuck between his teeth, or his gums. Laying on his stomach with paws tucked under??? I would have been at vet longggg time ago. Make sure when you do get to the vet you tell them about giving him the pepperoni, they will check his gums. Praying for lil Otis.

| Update: When I got home this morning he was the same if not worse. Immediately took him to the vet. I told him everything I have told you all, including the pepperoni. He looks him up and down, notices lots of welps and reddish raised areas all over him, which were not there yesterday. Wanted to know if Otis had fleas, I said no, but he was itching himself like crazy, to the point where he was trying to scratch his ears with both back legs at the same time! He said it had to be some kind of allergy/skin allergy. Gave him a shot, and ten days worth of antibiotic. He told me to bath him immediately in a medicated shampoo and if it didn't clear up by next week to come back. Came home, gave him the medicine, gave him a bath (which he was detesting) and now he is sleeping like a log. Hopefully this is the answer! Thanks for all of your replies and thoughts, I joined yesterday just to get some answers and you all have been a blessing! |

| I am glad you took him to the vet. It still makes we wonder what he had a reaction to. Have you recently put anything on him? It does not seem like the pepperoni would of caused a reaction that fast but I guess it is possible. I hope he starts feeling better soon. Here is an article that talks a little about what causes skin welts. Causes of Welts on Dogs

| I honestly don't know what would have suddenly caused this. I've lived in the same neighborhood for his entire life so I'm not sure environment is a factor...and it would have to be a pretty serious bug bite to cause this much trouble. But it does look like he has walked into something as he underbelly and crotch are are red, and inflammed with welps. He has been sleeping most of today with me which is good because yesterday he wouldn't lay down fot more than a minute or two before readjusting. |
