9 YO kicks legs, restless, acting strange
 

So I come home from work my 9 YO Yorkie Otis is his normal self, I sit down to eat and I give him a half piece of pepperoni and tiny piece of crust (from my pizza) and within minutes he is up again down again, squats and kicks his legs back, kind of growls when he does it. His tail is between his legs and he keeps rubbing his head on the ground like he does when he is getting to dry off.He won't let me near him unless I corner him and when I get him to check him out he licks my hands for a moment then repeats everything I mentioned. Whats wrong?, Anyone seen something like this before?

Did this happen last night? How is he acting now? It sounds like something is bothering him. If he is rubbing his head on the floor then he may have a ear infection. If he keeps doing it then I would recommend that you take him to the vet.

No I work night shifts so I eat dinner when post ppl eat breakfast. It happened this morning. After he kept doing it for about 5 minutes I went to let him out, which he loves being outside and we stepped out aide and he immediately sat down on the doormat and barked to go back in. He was shaking pretty bad and his heart rate was off the charts. I have him in bed with me now, he is calm and laying between my legs with his eyes closed like nothing ever happened. Thoughts?

If this was my dog, I would watch him for an hour, if this behavior continued I would be at the vet ASAP. If it stops I would still bring him to the vet to find out WHY and what it could have been. Call me over protective, but that is me. There is a reason this happened, they have no voice, they cannot tell you what they feel, something bought that on. Always better to be safe then sorry is my motto. I hope he is doing better when you read this, but a vet visit really is a must.

He needs to be checked out by his vet. Please keep us updated on his condition. Keeping the both of you in my thoughts and prayers.

First off, pepperoni is not good for him. It is high in fat and has a lot of spices. It could be that he did not care for the taste, but I would be at a vet if these symptoms continues.

What you are describing sounds almost like encephalopathy. Keep a close eye on him and get him to the vet asap if this continues!

I think you need to get him to a vet right away. I would not wait any longer if he is still acting strange.

Oh, I agree, but I thought if it only happened that one time then perhaps it was just the pepperoni. If it continues, absolutely a vet is in order.

Just to be clear....are you saying you witnessed these symptoms for the very first time RIGHT after giving him the pizza? If so, I'd be wondering if something was stuck in his mouth/throat or something as dogs will do very bizarre/unrelated things when something is stuck in their mouths or throats. If this is not the 1st time you've seen this, then I'd be concerned about neuro or something.

Is he doing better now?

It worries me that his heart rate was high and he was shaking. Have you got him up and walking around since you last posted? Perhaps he was choking or maybe the pepperoni was to spicy for him. I hope he is back to normal now.

Jada acted very strange when she got a stalk from a green bean stuck in her gum. Within minutes she was trembling and pacing and by the time we got to the vets 10 minutes later she had a fever of 104.

I hope your baby is ok and it was just the pepperoni..maybe it was burning his tongue. Some pepperoni is very spicy and burns my mouth.
I would for sure be seeing a vet if it continues. Sending prayers its just an isolated incident.

UPDATE: I took Otis for our daily walk/run and he busted out of the gates, urinated, but on our way home he wanted to take a shortcut, which he never does, and he kept pacing back and forth when I wouldn't let him go that way. He started choking and then vomited the food I gave him and some of his dry food. On our way home I noticed his gait was different and he tended to favor his back legs. We went to lay down and he has been 50/50 acting strange. He gets up and sprints to the window to bark at the mailman/neighborhood kids. He will jump up onto my bed and jump off. But when he gets up on the bed he lays in strange positions like folding his front arms underneath him and laying on his stomach in a straight line (never does this, usually curls or lays on his side). I have felt his hips and back legs, but he doesn't yelp or cry. When we came downstairs to watch the news he ran down, albeit with his tail between his legs, started doing that rubbing his head on the ground (like he is trying to dry off his head after a bath), and sitting down and kind of kicking his back legs and barking loudly at me. He got excited when I went to let him out on his chain but he wouldn't go outside. He is laying with me now but isn't shaking or having an irregular heartbeat.
NOTE: I have always gave him one day when he acts differently/worrisome, like when he gets stung by a bee or has an upset stomach. BUT his actions today have been wholly different than previous events, so if he is still acting up rest assured I will take him to the vet in the morning. THOUGHTS!?

Do you think he could of eaten something while you were at work that has caused an obstruction? With these actions I would not wait till morning. Praying for you little guy.

I dont think so. I just don't understand him rubbing his head on the ground, shaking his head like he is wet, and ive noticed today when he walks he does so at a brisk pace, keeps his head down and constantly tries to lay down as quickly as possible. I have just noticed he has a dime sized welp on his back thigh. And he has been favoring that leg today, maybe a bee sting that has him shaken ?

Like I mentioned before, he could have a serious ear infection. Ear infections can be very painful. Have you check his ears to see if he has any swelling or discharge?
