| HELP, Yorkie bitten on head, saw Vet, eye has mucus. HELP!!! Today, My poor little Ki (pronounced key) was attacked by a dog that was about 15 lbs bigger. He was bit right on the top of his head. We saw the Vet and the top of his head was glued he is taking an antibiotic. Tonight I noticed that his eye appears to have a mucus like substance coming from the corner of his eye. More examination indicated that the whites of this eye are red. Should I call the Vet? Does anyone know why this may be happening? Is he in pain? He is very quiet and is sleeping quite a bit. |

| I would certainly see his vet tomorrow MORNING....ASAP.....you may have an eye injory or just eye trauma that could set up an infection which could cost his eyesight. Tonight, I would clean his eye with warm salt water, with sterile cotton balls....wipe ONE time, from inside to outside corner, and discard the cotton ball.....wipe again with another cotton ball, from inside corner to outside corner, and discard....do this 4-5 times.......if you have any blood or green mucus, I would go into the vet tonight....but I always err on the side of caution, safe rather than sorry. .......just make sure you get into the vet first thing in the morning so you can get antibiotics if needed. I would not clean the eye before you go into the vet, so he can see exactly what he is dealing with.... Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 05-21-2014 at 08:33 PM. |

| Poor Ki! Be careful that the water does not go in the eye. If he has a scratch in the cornea, this is extremely painful. Personally, I would take my pup to the ER tonight. Please keep us posted.

| I personally would go to a vet specializing in eyes.... Angell animal medical center in Boston has a couple.

| Ki update and thank you all! Well, we have had quite a day, two appointments and one diagnosis. Ki has an infected eye that was probably caused when the dog bit him on his head. My little 4 pound Rescue Baby is so good, he is exhausted and has been asleep since we arrived home. We need to clean his eye three times a day and place drops in in it right after. He is to continue with his oral prescription too. Recheck next week. I must say The green colored cone does not flatter his beautiful color! Thank you all for so much support and suggestions. It is evident that you all are caring, kind and have tremendous knowledge. Thank you again! |
