| LiL SOPHiE'S EYES!!! Hi I'm not sure if this is right place to post but I would love some advice. My first yorkie grand pup was born on April 7, 2014. She's beautiful perfect little pup. She was tiny 3 ounces when born but has way doubled her weight. She's a little chunk now. LOL. I'm extremely worried because she has not opened her eyes yet. By my calculations she might have been early as I wasn't expecting her to give birth till 12th or later. That lead to me not being home when she went into labor and I came home to find my very first grand pup had passed. I cried so much. I still feel so guilty I wasn't here. But she did have another pup 4 hours later and it was a baby girl whom we have named Sophie. The vet said if they haven't opened eyes by day 16 then I should bring her up. My hubby not crazy about another vet bill if it's possible everything is fine since he thinks you can wait up to 20 days or if the baby was early it may take longer. Has anyone experienced this with yorkie pups? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| Pups open their eyes anywhere from 10-14 days after birth, and sometimes you may not notice them, as they will open just a tiny little slit. We had 4 pups In December and they all opened their eyes on a different day.

| Maybe try a warm damp/wet compress for a few minutes? I once fostered a newborn kitten that the mom had abandoned and had to very super gently apply a damp warm compress to his eyes. His tears had dried sealing the hair on the upper and lower lids. His tiny weak eyelids weren't able to break the seal. After a minute or two of the compress off and on, he opened them without me touching his eyes. Now, that worked for me... But who knows? This might be a bad idea... Good luck, and keep us posted! What a pretty name for your sweet baby

| It took 3 weeks for a kitten of mine to open its eyes and the vet helped it he told me to put warm compresses on it. She ended up having a sllght eye infection and I had to put eye drops in. I was just happy she made it she was the only kitten from the litter that didnt pass. We ended up keeping her

| thanks for advice! Thanks to all of you that took the time to write me a response! I'm taking your advice and gonna use warm wet compress for minute or so on eyes. I really think she was early and maybe that's why so I'm gonna give her a couple days but if not open by then then I'm taking her to vet. You guys made me feel so welcomed with my first post! Thanks bunches!!! |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Hope Sophie's eyes open soon (or when ready) so you won't have to worry. It must be such a nervous responsibility having a little one to look after, but also such a joy. I have no experience in this area, and I wonder if you may have gotten more responses if you had posted in the Breeders section. This is such a large site, not all members have time to read posts in each section.

| and they are open!!!! Hey guys! Thanks so much for all the advice and support. Wednesday right before bed I kinda helped her along. I know I probably shouldn't have but I barely pulled the. Apart and they came open. She kept them open after this. I could tell the slit had become more defined. So she is opening her little eyes all by herself now. I'm almost positive now that she must be a premie. She was 5 days earlier than 63 days from when we saw the hookup between mom and dad. Again I just wanted to thank you all for your support. It is greatly appreciated!!! |
