Wow. I'm sure you're aware that name calling is against the terms of service for the forums. You should be careful.... I'd hate for you to get suspended. That would be kind of like running you off.

And clearly you need advice from someone because you still aren't getting it. We see through the lies and fake.

Is this the first and only time this has happened? If it was a nose bleed, I would think he would sneeze and that would be more of a splatter pattern.

I can not even guess at what "tests" are bieng run....did anyone of those vets think to check hemaglobin/hematocrit and even maybe bleeding time on this pup. "Mysterious bleeding from guessed at sources" in a baby this young, is cause for more concern, in my opinion than just wait and see what happens, it may not happen again whatever it was...." Whatever it was, it was not normal. There is a source of this event, and all you need is someone that knows how to find it and treat it.

For what it's worth, I HAVE seen fresh blood look that bright--it looks like blood and not paint to me. The photo looks like the pee pad was peeled open, and we're looking at the inside of the pad. If that is the case, the dog could have licked the outside of the pad and not disturbed the blood that had transferred to the inside. The pattern looks like the blood was squirting directly from an artery. That could have happened with a broken nail or a nosebleed if the artery was close to the outside of the nasal passage. (Maybe I've been watching too many CSI Miami episodes, LOL!) I'm still willing to give the benefit of the doubt that this is a real incident, and if that's the case, you'd think that the vet would look in the nose with a scope and check out all other body parts that could bleed in this manner. Hopefully the dog is okay and this was just a freak incident. It's fine to do liver tests, but I'd still consider finding a better vet because the last vet that saw him doesn't sound like he's checking out everything that he should be.

I still don't think it is blood. Never did. Who knows. What I do know is that if it were an artery, the dog would be dead...and there would be so much more blood. I honestly don't see this as a lot of blood...I have seen a whole heck of a lot more come from a dog that was bleeding. It could have been a nail, but usually they will run all over the place and lick it. They don't just stay in one spot and it drips around like that. Don't know what it is, but hopefully the right tests were done and the puppy is ok.

Yep...if it was an artery, there would be 'gushes' of blood that coordinate w/ the pumping/beating of the heart. Also, the dog would most likely die, as you mentioned.

The color doesn't throw me terribly, but the pattern doesn't make sense to me...for this to happen, one would have to be bleeding a LOT of venous blood, and be slow and deliberate in dribbling this pattern onto the surface. If/when a dog hurts a paw, they'll usually limp around (causing blobs of blood) and/or hold the paw up (causing sporadic drips, not circular/regular patterns). I dunno...never seen anything like this.

You can see the pattern of the absorbent topper of the pee pad. The areas kind of look like there are little polka dots.

Wylie's mom already went over why it doesn't appear to be arterial spray. Yes, blood can appear bright red initially. But it begins to quickly oxidize and turn brown in color. IF it were fresh blood on the pad, then the pup would still have wet/bloody fur around the source of the bleeding. Even if the pup licked a bleeding area, it's unlikely that they would have been capable of cleaning the area so well that the fur wouldn't have at least been stiff with drying blood.

As for a vet exam, it works much better when you actually take them in to be seen versus a phone call. I would like to think that MOST pet owners would pick up that dog and high tail it to the vet with that pad in tow if they weren't sure where it was coming from. Even if the vet's office wasn't open yet (which seems strange at 9:30 on a weekday morning) most of us would be there waiting for the door to open.

I agree, arterial blood is bright red and quickly oxidizes. If one of my dogs was bleeding like that the last thing I would do would be stop to take a picture and post on a forum . I would have picked up the dog, pad and be pounding on the vets door.

The bottom line is that the dog would have bled out. The OP does not know what this was so she says ... if it had been arterial and no one was there to stop it, dead pup.

I will have to pull out my anatomy books.....memory is dumping ancillary statistics and data that does not apply to me.......not sure there is an artery running down into toe nails....think not......in any event, hopefully this pup has been seen by a qualified vet that is concerned enough to actually examine the pup for what could have caused this issue....obviously, by this time, the bleeding has stopped.....and the longer the time passes before a diagnosis is determined, the chances are not good that she will ever know what caused this particular incident. Fortunately, the baby survived......this time. Hopefully, the next time, whatever caused this incident, will not "rupture" and the pup "bleed out"....

New here, new to puppy pads, when we pick up our Yorkie pup next month, will be first time with puppy pads as breeder will have her trained on pads. Since puppy pads are designed to absorb pee, could that be the reason for the strange pattern of the blood?

Usually with all but very freshly expelled blood onto an absorbent surface(as in medical supply absorbent pads placed under patients), the edges of the blood will fairly quickly begin to separate into liquid serum and appear lighter in color as the coagulation of the blood begins and platelets begin to clump together. None of the stains on the pad have that appearance anywhere along the stain. That and the fact there are no smears or prints in the blood are puzzles.

Still, what is most important to us all is the well-being of the little puppy, why he wasn't immediately rushed to the vet and what caused the staining and if he's going to be okay. It's worrisome that apparently there was no urgent attempt to get a diagnosis made or treatment rendered right after the stained pad was discovered. Also, the narrative is confusing about what happened and why and when he subsequently did see any vets and what they actually did for him as glucose tests for dehydration and other un-named tests, along with a recommended liver test, don't seem to address the matter of the staining on the potty pad.

I seriously had my doubts about the blood thing also but I also feel sorry for this puppy if for no other reason, because of how deplorable the pad itself was. I hate that the person got so defensive and was suspended because YT might be the only true help this pup would ever get as it seems she is not willing to take it to the vet. I realize she said some bad things and called people names but in all fairness she was called (not in so many words) a liar. I have prayed for this puppy since her first post and continue to do so. It is so sad to see any living being not receive the care they deserve.
